Just to bring this back on topic before we nosedive into fashion, the e39 was simultaneously one of the coolest saloons and worst looking estates ever, the M5 and B10 both on my bucket list.

I like them on certain colours. Which seems like a strange thing to say as they're such a small design feature. So the jury is still out. My wife hates them, but she's already says she doesn't want to change car, so what does she know. Within the first week I'll have come back to the car to find it with no fuel and straw in the boot.
The E39 still looks great in Saloon form and the E61 estate still looks amazing with the m sport bodykit or M5 body. That generation was the first 5 series designed by Chris Bangle wasn't it, which got slated on release?

Yeah, you're right. Basic trim and horrid alloys I think which just accentuated the styling in all the wrong ways. I'm going to stick with stealth spec on the standard alloys and rebadge it as a 516d for the lolz.

BMW seem to have a habit of releasing cars that look awful at first and end up growing. The E60 and E65 were the first, but the G29 and G11 LCI and more recently the G80, G87 and G70 all looked hideous at first. It’s because each subsequent models looks worse than the previous. Not just BMW either, they’re all at it.

Why do the X-Drive cars always seem to have "too big" gaps between the front tyres and arches?

Because they have more ground clearance to go off road.

Apparently it's something to do with a combination of the staggered wheel size (19 at front and 20 at back) and safety design regulations about track width. Some of the premiums being asked for these are hilarious
Saw one the other day that was over £120k and it wasn't even fully loaded (no ceramic brakes for example)
