Had a bit of an Oscar’s weekend this weekend.
Watched One Battle After Another yesterday and Sinners toight.
One Battle After Another is the better movie in my opinion and deserved the Oscar (out of these two - I still need to watch the other nominees)
But I think DiCaprio put in a better performance than Michael B Jordan and was more deserving of the best Actor - just on my opinion. We’ll see how I feel after watching the others.
I’m not going to lie though, I did NOT expect to hear Vampires in 1930’a Mississippi singing ‘ The Rocky Road to Dublin’

Hamnet
Powerful and profound. It's one to strap yourself in for, it's quite heavy emotionally, the acting is phenomenal, and the story is great. It's an excellent film, but you need be in the mood for it.

Project Hail Mary
Loved it
One of the best films I've seen in a very long time
My youngest recommended this also - mrs mik and I are going to see it tonight at the Everyman in Glasgow - all couches. Never been before so looking forward to that experience also.
May not be the actual screen we are in, but you get the idea.

And proper legroom too, plus table service

I do enjoy Everyman when I feel like making a trip to the cinema as expensive as possible

@mik that looks great - we have a Picture House in Brighton, similar thing
There's something very nice about a sofa, glass of wine, and some quality popcorn or a slice of homemade cake while you're watching a good film
Hope you enjoy the film and overall experience

So it actually was the screen in the image above. Proper hot dog (as it should be for £9) and a menebrea brought to our couch. Fabulous.
Film was a bit cheesy in bits, but some awesome filmography and rumbling soundtrack. Gosling was very good in it.

Project Hail Mary was indeed excellent. Just reading the book now and I can see why they had to cut out so much of the science stuff to hit the run-time and keep things light.
Send Help - Sam Raimi-directed movie about two coworkers (one douchebag boss-bro and an overlooked-for-promotion woman) who are stuck on a deserted island is also utterly excellent and now on streaming.

The Stranger
Film version of Camus’ novel about a man who is somewhat detached from the world and appears to drift through life in a daze, before being subsequently tried for murder. I’ve read the book a couple of times and feel this film version is impressive in the way it delicately represents Mersault’s sense of alienation. It elicits the sense of pathos that manifests in the book too. Although I’m also wondering if Mersault is just autistic
7.4 out of 10

We are members of the one in Bury. It's the only way to Cinema IMO!

We've just bought a projector in the room we have the stereo in so are seeing how much we use it. If a lot then I'll get a screen that slides up into the roof. 105" picture so currently really enjoying it, will see if it lasts.
Just watched Predator Badlands on the plane and really enjoyed it. A little silly, a little too much humanising the predator character but as a brain out film, excellent.
Nuremberg, brilliant, after watching The Popes Exorcist I'm really enjoying the Russel Crow stuff currently. Moody enough and some horrific real footage which surprised me. Brilliantly done. It's difficult to see Malek as anything but a camp Mercury but it wasn't a distraction, just shows how brilliant he was in Bohemian Rhapsody.
Dave!

I watched Nuremberg on Friday and really enjoyed it too, gripping story and Crowe was excellent.

The Fall Guy (netflix)
A bit late to the party, but that was a really fun film with loads of excellent callbacks.
Very enjoyable, fully 8/10 unicorns.

Saltburn. Enjoyed it despite the lack of any portrayal of Zonda, who I assumed it was about being the only notable resident of Saltburn. Bit indulgent in length - Amazon can do that whereas a theatre release would have been more tightly edited.
Spotted this on Amazon Prime and watched it last night. Enjoyed the style of it and the twist. I did wonder why the name was familiar and now I know

Yes, my legal team decided to let them use it for their silly little film, the only film of any note that I actually appear in is Atonement.
And I’ve still yet to watch it…

Fuze - enjoyed this, it’s like Murder on the Orient Express except it’s a heist in London. 7/10

I, Tonya - this was watched on a crap screen on a Delta flight with regular interruptions for announcements; it still seemed to be a decent film. Spoiler: don't watch if you simply want to see a happy ending. Margot Robbie is probably the best actor to have come out of Neighbours.
Some years late, but watched this (also on a flight - bizarrely).
I loved the way it was shot, slipping in and out of narration and direct dialogue.
Ultimately 2hrs felt like 30mins too long, and the last 30mins were a bit harrowing.
Despite this - 7.5 triple axles out of 10, and fair play to Robbie for the work she put in learning to figure skate.

Funnily enough, I watched Murder on the Orient Express this weekend. It's like Fuze but on a train and with a phenomenal mustache on Kenny B.
9 out of 10 mustaches.

Murder on the Orient Express
It didn't get great press (IIRC) but I really like Branagh's Poirot films. Orient Express is the best, Death on the Nile is the worst of the three (but still watchable) with A Haunting in Venice as the 2nd best (although it's the other half's favourite)

Disclosure Day
Just back from watching this
Really enjoyed it
I'm a sucker for these aliens kind of films, but two and a half hours went by very quickly and I thought it was an entertaining film

Same - just got back.
Just lacked any flair for me. Take out Blunt and Firth and I'd have said it was a budget indy film....I'd have certainly not said it was written/directed by Spielberg and scored by John Williams!
Felt too long, chunks of it made no sense and occasionally absurd (him repeatedly escaping swathes of soldiers with ease, getting a tire shot out and magically healed, riding a car being dragged by a train), some characters motivations and actions felt at odds at points (Firth's especially, and he felt miscast IMO).
Big miss for me.
(Unless you like Alfa Romeo's of course

plenty of full-frame Giulia shots!)
