You know, what DS9 tried to be and failed at ;)
Oh, I finished this. S1-4 make DS9 look like a comic book and are very very good and tie together extremely well (due to the whole plot being planned out before filming started, etc - so lots of foreshadowing and the like - the first show to do this an overarching, series long, planned story) but to be fair are less imaginative than DS9 was allowed to be, due to B5 being considerably harder sci-fi than DS9.

I'd say B5 holds up better, although S5 is rather weak, thanks to the writers being told they were getting killed after S4, so they tied up as much as they could at that point....then they were renewed for a 5th season, which ended up being a bit weak as a result.

I'll probably watch it again in a few years. Can't say the same of DS9. I've still got a sour taste in my mouth over the end of that. Just fucking awful

Six episodes in to 1899 on Netflix and it’s pretty damn good. Very atmospheric, spooky, lots of twists & turns and is building to its climax very well. Definitely not one to watch half-assed though as there’s about 23 different languages used which are all subtitled, but you can’t look away… unless of course you spare fluid in them all.

Wednesday (Netflix).

Brilliant reboot of the Addams Family universe and family. Thoroughly enjoyable!

Series 2 - Didn’t know it was made but binged the whole thing this morning. Once again, utterly brilliant TV. It can can go from hilarious to slapstick to gut wrenchingly sad to making you cry, all in one 30 minute episode

Honestly one of the best things I’ve ever watched

Suitable for kids Alex? Would be good to have something new to watch with the boy (6yo)

It's probably a bit much for a 6yo - it's 12 rated on Netflix and in parts, for good reason.

Edit, speaking of stuff on Netflix, apparently Hellbound is getting a second season, no details on timing etc.

What @Beany says. I wouldn't let my 9yo, let alone the 6 (almost 7yo watch it). Although I should probably try something a bit more scary with them as they've watched all the HP films and I don't think, adult humour aside, Wednesday is much worse.

Edit: both the boys still struggle with even mild peril/threat. I guess it depends on what he's accustomed to and how active his imagination is. Ours will have "bad dreams" if they've watched something a bit too much.

Ok cheers. He loves Ghostbusters and recently watched Goonies. I'd forgotten about the scene in GB2 on the old underground with the severed heads and was convinced he'd have bad dreams after that. Thankfully not!

I'll maybe give Wednesday a watch and see what I think but it sounds like it would be a bit much yet.

Thoroughly enjoyed Wednesday Episode 1 thanks everyone for the recommendations. 11yo enjoyed it but it pushed the boundaries a little for him (although he's sat through all the Lord of the Rings movies) the dead bodies are a bit graphic but the underlying vibe is aimed quite well and not being too horror. Thing is kinda creepy too but funnily enough also got the biggest laugh.

Finished the second season of Wu-Tang An American Saga last night, still a great show.

The casting is amazingly good, especially ODB and Method Man. We had fun noticing samples and verses that ended up on 36 Chambers as we've been watching too.

It's a must watch if you're a fan imo.

My Dead Body on C4.

Fuck me that was a hard watch. Saw it advertised. I felt compelled to watch. I felt a bit embarrassed that I felt compelled to watch. What’s my motive? But I watched.

I’m not very squeamish, so the medical dissection element wasn’t an issue for me. But I started watching the programme with a suspicion that the donation, and happiness for their body to be dissected on camera might have been a bit self indulgent? A bit selfish - she has kids FFS. A bit desperate for some kind of legacy?

I’m happy to report that these feelings were replaced with a deep respect for her bravery and compassion. For her journey. For her strength through that journey. For her desire that something - like anything - positive could be borne from her suffering.

I lost a good friend at a similar age to cancer. She also left behind young kids. Brought back memories.

I may have shear a tear or 3.

RIP Toni Crews.

Edit: kinda related Twitter thread than made me snigger.

I might be very late here but I just watched season 1 of Carnival Row on the flight home. It’s bloody brilliant and has such great scenery.

Really? Made it through two maybe three episodes before giving up on it.

Did remind me that next year the next series of Shadow and Bone is due, which IIRC was silly enough to be passable watching.

Didn't realise the Third season of His Dark Materials started this week too.

The English

I love a good western so this one sparked my interest.

Emily Blunt stars as an English Lady travelling through the old west to find the man responsible for her sons death. She’s helped by a Pawnee scout played by Chaske Spencer.

The ending was perhaps, a little too sentimental but it’s beautifully made, amazing landscapes and lots of well known actors (Stephen Rae, Ciaran Hinds, Rafe Spall, Toby Jones). Lots of twists and turns along the way.

8 scalps out of 10

Strike: Troubled Blood (BBC)

I've enjoyed the previous series and this one didn't fail to entertain. Felt darker and more sinister than previous series, but it suits the characters. Only four episodes so easily dispatched over a week.

8/10 tired SIII Landies.

I haven't watched any of Strike which is odd as my mum runs Tom Burkes UK fan club!
