Tyres on the Model 3 had almost hit the wear bars so needed to be replaced
Image
As for the special Hankook tyres themselves they’re pretty good. Car is actually about 10% more efficient in the real world compared to the PS4S and much quieter. The foam inside them is twice the thickness of the Michelin. They do ultimately have less grip but I think it’s more fun. PS4S full throttle squirt out the corner = no drama. With these the car will squirm a bit. Gives it some character. Still did 27,000 miles on a set.

I'm assuming this is an April Fool because your tyres being on the wear bars shouldn't mean you have canvas showing on the shoulders.

I had that on the Puma, but that was when it's bushes, and thus alignment, were fucked.

Our 320d was consistently wearing the inside of the rears like that - it was chewing through rears in <5k miles. it turned out to be knackered rear shocks. One started leaking, i changed them and the wear stopped.

The corsa has a 1.2 Turbo 3 banger with 100 bhp. Its never going to be rapid especially in comparison to a 6 banger 3.0 BMW but you will learn to use the turbo torque low down.

Its got a wet belt in that engine though...Made by Peugeot.

I quite liked the one we had. It was GS spec so had plenty kit. Pity about the wet belt.

I'm pretty sure it ain't the turbo. It has no low down torque. I know they're subtle when LPTd, but ooh, this thing is pretty gutless.

I accepted the £11k, but disputed the value (yes, you can do this). It took about 3 months of going back and forth with them (the insurance valuator was stubborn a Scottish bastard 😂😂), but eventually they gave in and paid me what I paid for the car (minus the excess, of course)

So basically, do what Gavster, Scotta and Rich say and hold out for what you know it's worth!
Isn’t that the standard rate of depreciation on an Alfa!? 😉

It's a pre-facelift Corsa F on a 71 plate.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opel_Cors ... 2JO;_2019)

I took it for a bit more of a run tonight around town (nothing fast) and if it is turbo'd, I can't tell - up to 40mph it's absolutely fucking gutless.

Edit: Wanged it into Autotraders instant valuation thing:

Nah, you just need to get used to low powered cars again. Take the level of abuse you think you can give it. Double it. Double it again. There you go.

I don’t know, I think 75bhp and 1.2T in a soft, isolating modern car is getting to the point where things are just too slow to be fun 😄

Yeah, I think you're right - I've not had a car with less than 230lb/ft for about a decade now. I also managed to stall it yesterday, but in my defence it was some clown dithering at a zebra crossing then deciding to run out in front of me, and I forgot to dip the clutch

Still chewing over options, although Z4C is still very much top of the list as a straight-forward, slightly different to the usual option of 'fast hatch/saloon'. I'm overthinking it, but as much as anything that's to give my mind something to focus on other than the (expected, rational) anxiety caused by having my property fucked with. I expect most people after something like this worry if they've been personally targetted, etc whereas in reality it's just some theiving cunt seeing an opportunity and they don't know you exist other than as a function of the theft attempt - I can square that part away.

The entirely irrational, crippling anxiety that I'll somehow - no idea how - have done something wrong which means the insurance will be void and I'll be financially fucked and without a car and probably arrested or something is far harder. It's keeping me up till 4am every night and I can't focus on a fucking thing at work, tying my guts in knots and all that. If I were some sort of wide boy not declaring mods / speeding tickets or something that'd be rational - but I'm not, I'm immensely boring, so I don't know where this is coming from other than my usual imposter syndrome about being allowed to be a normal person, yadda yadda.

Being rationally anxious (due to the theft attempt) is normal, but this roll-on irrational stuff really, really isn't, which is why it's a mental illness, not a fun character quirk. It's particularly annoying as I'd done a decent job spending the previous week off work and resettling myself somewhat, then Saturday night this fucking wrecking ball comes in at literally the worst possible time to fuck that up.

Overthinking the inevitable replacement at least gives me something to direct my mind on that drowns some of that out. Expect I likely wont hear about the state of things till towards the weekend at which point things should chill out a bit as I'll at least know where I stand.

TLDR - could have done without all this, really

I don't meant to turn this into a psychotherapy session...but did you ever worry about the M135? Being stolen, targeted, or expensive repairs beforehand?

I'm coming from a position of understanding here; my anxiety is getting worse as I get older, I've found - and while I didn't mention it at the time, I spent far too much time worrying about the QV being stolen, or not finding somewhere nice to park it with the risk of damage, or shitting itself and getting a £3k bill. None of which is helped by owners groups that are typically very negative as people post problems....and overally was a small part of why I sold it. It was entirely irrational of course (given my personal situation) but as you've mentioned, that's why it's not just a quirk.

The reason I say this - and it goes against the car forum ideology of "Finance to the MAX and buy an M4!! YOLO!" is given what you've just said, consider getting something cheap and fun that won't stress you out. It's why I've owned the Up so long; I enjoy it, but it's cheap enough that I don't really care if it's gets damaged or breaks, or where I park it, take it, or how it's used.

TL;DR - given what you've just said, consider something cheap and fun even in the short term so you can sleep at night.
Also, insurance will be absolutely fine. Unfortunately, it just takes a while.

You make good points, but honestly, it didn't really come up much in my head. Ultimately, rationally speaking, it's plastic metal and glass and if it goes it goes, that's what insurance is for, etc. The main thing is that no-one is hurt (other than the scrote who bled in the car)

I'll probably think about that more in future, but for example, I'm not aware of anyone stealing/stripping Z4Cs to order, and I'll probably avoid the fast hatch genre in future as that's where a lot of the scumbag owners who don't question where that cheap interior off eBay came from, etc as they drop in price and get popular with the knuckle draggers.

I think the Z4C is a reasonable compromise between 'cheap enough' (yes, I know, it's not 'cheap' - I think more 'cheap to maintain' because it's an E-series BMW with a normal engine) as people don't really think about them, as can be seen by the number that are in Autotrader and haven't moved for months, and a bit different/special/interesting enough to hold my attention. Certainly, it's more 'park on the street'-able than a Cayman (And perhaps, the M135i in hindsight, but on a good day you can tell yourself that you can't live like that otherwise you'd never own anything nice)

I'm not quite feeling the hot hatch urge as yet (I'm sure I will again at some point!), I still fancy something with fairly long legs - I'm irregularly doing 200-300 mile trips and it's nice to be able to chill on those, rather than having a stiff, loud, short geared thing for those.

That, and I've seen how often my neighbours 182 cup spends on jackstands ;)

And yeah, I will say that when you push past about 7/10ths on a grimy road, the 135i did rather fall apart. Guess they needed to keep the stiff subframe bushes for the M-cars, otherwise who'd buy them?
