Re: Your fleet running reports
You might be pleasantly surprised. When the boys sandero was written off i was gritting my teeth for a fight with them. Had saved a few autotrader cars... Come on then you bastards its worth a lot more than that ect...They sent the offer...£500 more than we paid for it last year...Oh, Ok thanks.Beany wrote: Mon Mar 31, 2025 1:33 pmWait, can you get an E46 M3 for that money?integrale_evo wrote: Mon Mar 31, 2025 12:05 pmI’m not sure about that. 135/140 are the hot ticket for young yobs at the moment, along with golf R, a45s etc. I’d imagine a hot 1er is far more in demand by dodgy characters than a z4 coupe, even if it has some value in parts.scotta wrote: Mon Mar 31, 2025 10:41 am Shit situation Beany. Id be tempted to replace it with something a bit more anonymous if you still need to park it on the street. I wouldn't suggest a Z4 M coupe would be a park on the street type car either i'm afraid.
Personally I’d rather have a manual e46 M3 with a carbon airbox and £10k in my pocket than a z4m anyway![]()
Honestly I'm probably looking about the £10k mark - I got a loan to get the M135i which is obviously still ongoing, cos I ain't the sort of guy who has £10k walking around money. Insurance (who I've just come off the phone with) reckon it's a likely write off, and they'd base valuation of book value, but I believe from people on here that if you go "er, have a look at Autotrader please" they'll tend to be a bit kinder - I'm expecting £6-8k maybe? I have a few grand in savings so tickling around five figures is where I'm looking.
Clean-ish E46 M3s look around £15k, and they're still a bit high risk for my tastes at the moment.
Courtesy car should be here tomorrow, hopefully by then I'll know what they're up to regarding the car, then it's a case of move on from that I guess.
Annoyingly, it's gonna be against my own insurance so that's gonna be a fucking pig of a thing. Never had to do this before so not 100% on the details honestly.
Aside, anyone know what A-MAN is likely to be classed at with Enterprise rent a car? I've tried googling and it's not clear. I'd assume something small and manual given the M135i is a small car (I'm not too worried about manual or auto so I just went with that)
Re: Your fleet running reports
From personal experience through enterprise when the X5 was in for warranty work. I had from enterprise - X1, 120, 420d.Beany wrote: Mon Mar 31, 2025 1:33 pmintegrale_evo wrote: Mon Mar 31, 2025 12:05 pmI’m not sure about that. When they boys car got written off through insurance we got a new Stellantis Corsa 1.2 GS. Parked next to it was a citroen C4 cactus thing. You should get something similar sized. You might get another 1 series.
Re: Your fleet running reports
My main concern would be fitting in it, with my long dancers legs.
That's not me excusing me being a fat get - I mean, I am, but - I do actually have absurdly long legs for my height and that can be a pain in the, er, ankles if you're hunched over the wheel of a Yaris or a C1, etc.

£11k could get you a decent 5.0 Jaguar XK coupe...Beany wrote: Mon Mar 31, 2025 2:33 pm I think it's 14 days courtesy car regardless, but I guess I'll find outjust spoke to enterprise and they said yeah, corsa or yaris type affair.
Yeah been looking at local Z4 non-M Coupes and there's a few at reasonable prices. I'd just rather not be rushing into a car purchase, for obvious reasons, but I do need one so eh, what can you do.
Example
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-detail ... 6180863575
Be nice to spend a bit more time looking around, seeing I can find one with heated seats, more toys - IE if one has the iDrive, I could see if there's an option to do what you can do on the F-series and replace the screen with an android one, for Android Auto etc.
And yeah, expecting to get humped on insurance somewhat, but I'm old enough and ugly enough that hopefully it won't be too horrific.

For cars over 10 years old they just give you the cheapest thing they can. Dont fret about it - it’s only for a week or two

Re: Your fleet running reports
Maybe I am getting too used to having a disposable income, and should invest it in the local jag indy instead

(I'm actually going to have a look....)
(bit of a stretch - all high milers - and I doubt they'd suffer pootling around town very well long term....and be significantly more expensive to fix than even an M135i if they broked)
Edit: I'll do a proper "What money pit (or something sensibly fun) next?" thread once the insurance is sorted - they might come back and say "nah, we'll fix it" in which case it might change my options. Fuck trying to sell it to a typical M135i fan though, they'd probably crash it on a test drive - it'd be a trade in.

Re: Your fleet running reports
Likely so, and to be fair, packaging has come a long way since the Mk1 Ford Ka van and Citroen C2, the last truly small cars I drove regularly
Edit: I got some insurance quotes on the Z4M and a 370Z and both came back at around £500 (with declared claim, but I should keep my NCB because NCB protection, if I'm reading my policy right, after asking on the phone I wanted to verify) which tells you what a horrible shitbird the M135i is to insure....it was still north of a grand! I'm assuming that A Z4C would be no different, not done a Cayman S yet.
So that's a refreshing change.

That’s a result! Years ago when my 328i Sport was turned into a boomerang, the insurance company valued it like a bog standard 318i, it was offensively low. However frustrating that was, all I had to do was submit three comparable ads from AutoTrader etc and they pushed it up to a fair price.scotta wrote: Mon Mar 31, 2025 6:40 pmYou might be pleasantly surprised. Re: Your fleet running reports
Yeah, i pre-empted the offer in my e46 M3 with 3 comparable adverts and they just gave me what i asked for.
Re: Your fleet running reports
Noted.
Book value is something like £6k which is nowhere near retail value (cheapest comparable non-cat car I can find is £9500 on AT) so that'll be my plan if necessary.

Re: Your fleet running reports
When I wrote off my Alfa 156 years ago, the insurance offered me something like £11k (I paid £15k for it, 6 months earlier)
I accepted the £11k, but disputed the value (yes, you can do this). It took about 3 months of going back and forth with them (the insurance valuator was stubborn a Scottish bastard
), but eventually they gave in and paid me what I paid for the car (minus the excess, of course)
So basically, do what Gavster, Scotta and Rich say and hold out for what you know it's worth!

I remember when in the 90's when I wrote off my 106XSi cutting out adverts from Autotrader magazine to send to the insurance company to get a better value
stuck on the paper like one of those ransom letters.

The little Clio is showing I missed a trick with my love of 4 door saloons.
So on an extended run to darn sarf my wife took it did 378 miles to 38 litres, 45mpg brim to brim. She had a lot of 50 limits but wasn’t on an economy drive.
I’ve still to raise the cat on a different exhaust rubber as it’s a bit low when we are 4 up. It’s now the daily of choice when we don’t have to carry anything big or the dog.
One new issue though is while executing a Nigel Mansell gearchange and hitting 5000rpm the exhaust now touches the ARB till the limiter. So a new Dogbone mount has been ordered and I’ll look at the other mounts while I’m moving it all about.
Still to do Bluetooth, a bit more sound deadening in the boot and when I was in Belgium I managed to get a new front arch liner so I’ll fit that when I do the Dogbone.
Loving it, lightness is good fun. I may get it on the weighbridge with my fat arse in it to see how heavy it really is.
Dave!

Re: Your fleet running reports
I now have a Corsa. I think it's a three pot from the thrum they've tried to prevent reaching the cabin (having looked up the engine range, probably non-turbo 1.2 given how lacking in torque it is). The clutch is....just not nice at all, very hard to tell where engagement is for pulling away. Steering is almost entirely without feel. Obviously zero power which isn't a shock, but doesn't seem to mind being given a prod in second to get up the hill to the house.
It's quiet, refined (genuinely surprisingly so, in a good way - makes less noises over speedhumps etc than the M135i does) and otherwise not a bad place to be, and yes with some fiddling thanks to the pretty adjustable seats and steering wheel @V8Granite I did manage to make myself fit in it, although the gearstick is further away than I'd like, and has a long throw which makes things worse for first/third/fifth - my long legs are genuinely a pain for small cars like this. I'm not hunched over/curled up as much as I was expecting though.
It'll do fine till we find out the crack with the BMW.

Just catching up, damn, Beany, what a pain! And they organised (or had a mate with) a recovery truck to come and tow it away 'for repair, at the owner's request'?! Scumbags!
Left over crest; tightens.
Re: Your fleet running reports
Yup. If a neighbour hadn't called the police, the car would have just been *gone* because I had noise cancelling headphones on and didn't hear a fucking thing!JonMad wrote: Tue Apr 01, 2025 2:12 pm Just catching up, damn, Beany, what a pain! I'd probably have spotted the recovery truck messing with my car, but I doubt that would have ended well for anyone if they started arguing the toss, etc. I had to think about not shouting "YOU FUCKING WHAT YOU THIEVING CUNTS" when the police were standing next to me...
