I washed A2 derv earlier (62.7mpg over the last 852 miles - I saw a fuel station 5p/l cheaper than is normal here so it got filled) and the local weather forecast says rain starts in 27 mins. Sums up everything with all the cars atm, everything going wrong with all of them all at once, plus random added bumper scuffs etc.

Had the Adblue warning come on a week or so ago in the Audi. Filled up today. I’m never using 20l containers again; 10l is plenty to hold up in the air with a flexible hose which wants to pull out of the car constantly. Had to have a shower after filling

MX5 now up to 550 miles and while Mazda don’t have running-in instructions, 600 miles is the point at which I’m going to allow myself to rev it to the 7,500 red line. No more than 6,500 so far and only very occasional full throttle.

I’m loving having the Alfa working properly and sat there ready to use when the mood takes.

Commutes in it Monday and Thursday, retro car show Monday evening and 100miles or so today going to another one. That’s around 250 miles this week in it

New tyres booked for the Audi on Wednesday - Conti Sport Contact 6, same as on it. The tyres on the car are 0323 stamped but I noticed yesterday that the roundabout tyre is very borderline despite feeling fine even in the rain. Didn't quite make it to 30,000 miles so unsurprising that I am going for the same again; they are efficient, quiet, comfortable and long lasting while still gripping well. They have persuaded me not to swap to compromise all-seasons.

The BMW has passed its MOT with the fewest advisories I've ever had! The headlights are cloudy.

I am no longer certain whether this counts as flying colours or not.

Currently looking into tyres for the merc, was disappointed with how quickly the last pair of rear PS4 wore out. Tempted to try Contis again. Have noticed a lot of fitted prices approx £25 some up to £35 per tyre more expensive than just mail order which seems a bit of a pisstake.

991 - start up death rattle getting worse... need to get that seen to... it does need a service in November though so may wait until then given it has a warranty on it.

FFRR - with typically good timing, the screens did a wobbly on the way to the airport last Monday so no nav, ICE or heater controls. Plus the steering then developed a squeaky groan. Fortunately the screens have rectified themselves without any intervention so presume just a glitch. The steering column noise I do remember once before but then disappeared. This time it seems more set in and the actual steering feel seems heavier too - some posts online say it may be something more involved needing the rack fixing Again, under warranty and with a service due in October so will see if it goes away, otherwise something for the dealer to fix before I sell it later in the year.

Smart - came home to find someone had put a big scuff on the bumper and no details left. Found the fucker on CCTV (after 90 minutes crawling through footage on 4x fast forward). Could report it to the police but not sure if it worth the effort versus just getting it in to a bodyshop to get the bumper painted as it has other marks that need fixing as well.

Need to find a replacement now, and I've no idea at all what that will be.

New tyres fitted. Chap at the tyre place said he was most upset that it was on 30,005 miles. At least I got 30k out of the set. He said a Merc on the same Contis wouldn't get 12k, and that he would normally not recommend Contis but I said that I was happy with their longevity hence going for another set the same.

What was interesting was that there were two identical 255/40R20 fitments that are Audi-specific for the Sport Contact 6. Both have exactly the same speed and weight ratings and nothing to distinguish them when ordering, so I went for the ones which are £15 a tyre cheaper (obvs). Wonder what the difference is?

uh-oh. This is worse than non N-rated tyres on a Porch.

I’m a bit over tyres and what’s best since the GSD3 debacle years ago. I had a set that were awesome, got another set and they were awful, some code apparently meant some production of the older tyre went to Turkey or China etc. I did get my money back but it was still a pain.

Pilot sport 4S on the TT wiped out the front tyres in 4000 miles, that’s a 180hp hatch but they felt like the rubber was smearing onto the road. The XL version on the ML lasted for 25,000 miles so may aswell have been a completely different tyre completely.
Now the TT is on Dunlop Dportmax RT2 I was told were soft and wouldn’t last and we are at around 9000 miles and wearing fine.

Definitely.

I've found a difference. The ones I got are Audi A0 rated. The other ones are Audi A01. I believe they have effectively superseded the ones I got. However, the ones I got were the same as the ones I had before which I was very happy with, so I'm happy I saved the £60. The new ones have a slightly better efficiency rating, apparently, but 50+mpg regularly is good enough for me.
