Aston in for a service today. A couple of small things flagged up but nothing serious.
Cut out the n/s wishbone from the Tour-Egg. PITA job. The new one is in place but I'm waiting for some parts to arrive from Germany to finish it off.

Bought a new splitter (£155) and a 2nd hand undertray (£85) today, taking advantage of eBay’s 10% payday discount, so altogether £214 which I thought was reasonable.
I jacked the car up on Wednesday to inspect the damaged undertray; it didn’t look too severe and might even be repairable so we’ll see if the new one is required.
eBay seems to have these 10% discount codes quite frequently, so it’s worth keeping an eye out. (Today’s code is ‘PAYDAY’ and expires at 8pm)

Got someone looking at the Mondeo tomorrow - hopefully this time it'll fucking shift.
Took BMW over to Scarbs today, crisp autumn day, heaters on max, roof down, 70 miles of main roads, and a dozen or so backroads, including Forge Valley. I'm getting more used to it, and with the DSC/TC off it was happily slithering around the slightly moist valley road.
Drive back with the roof up and it was pretty quiet (not as quiet as the Mondeo, but quieter than the Puma by a wide sea mile), warm and firm, but composed and not harsh.
Really very little in the way of compromises. 30mpg average both ways isn't too bad for a three litre six pot either.
It does need a sharper exhaust note though; it's smooth and refined till it gets to about 1000rpm of the cutout, where it screams. I'd like a bit more bark a bit sooner. I'll look into that....

Just had a phone call from my dad saying the Spackerwagon keeps jumping out of high gear into neutral with a weird light on the dash which shows a cross in place of the gearbox along with an assortment of bad noises.
I told him to just give it a gentle drive to charge the battery and get everything moving. Not to break it.

Motul RBF600 ordered. Will get my local tyre place to install it, if that's the right word. Hopefully that will stop my pedal going soft at Rockingham, which it did at Bedford (not helped by my front pads going down to the metal). Also I'm on the good tyres now so it's looking good. Now it'll probably piss it down.

Mondeo sold, for a bit less than I'd like, but I'm not running two cars any more, so that's a bonus.
So, just got to send the paperwork in to the DVLA, cancel the tax, insurance etc and all sorted.

Change of owner will automatically trigger a tax cancellation/refund.
I changed the serpentine belt, an idler pulley and the tensioner pulley today, all for about £22, thanks to Amazon pricing oddities. Bargain.

Welded up and patched another split in the compacts exhaust, on the bend before the one I did last time.
Luckily it's a piece of cake to get on/ off. While it was off I measured up the boxes and bends and I'm going to take a punt on making a stainless system for it, hopefully for not much more than a cheap crap mild steel off the shelf system would be, and a lot less than a decent aftermarket stainless.
Would really like to do the rear beam bushes and brake pipes before winter otherwise I'll end up rushing to do them before the Mot next spring having avoided it for months
Merc could do with a wheel refurb, but would really like something a bit bigger on it. The secondhand market and the range of styles available seems a lot more limited on mercs than I'm used to with BMW. So not sure what I'll end up doing. Probably nothing before winter at least.

Mk1 cleaned and put away for the winter, it’s been a superb summer

I’ve a couple of winter jobs I’d like to do, new adjustable top mounts, current ones are spherical bearing and castor adjustable and you adjust the camber from the strut, new ones are camber adjustable top which will make it easier to adjust and more accurate. Also want to move the battery behind the passenger seat and get the wheel well resprayed as some of the paint in there is quite scuffed.
To make up for a long winter and to stop the temptation to use the mk1 I’ve pulled my mk2 shell out of storage and I’m going to attempt to finish it over the next few weeks. Genuine big bumper, black, 3 door, full history. 8v

Planning a fundamental cosmetic overhaul for the 928 this winter - glass out, interior strip, repairs to the various bits of rust and alloy corrosion, then a re-spray. interior-wise, I'm having the seats re-trimmed and some extra bits of leather facing to some of the panels. Thus far the plan is to keep the colours original (midnight blue bodywork, grey upholstery) but with navy blue stitching and piping on the seats. The body shop reckon it's 3 months' work.

Wow - three months eh? Expect that isn't going to be a small bill. Car is appreciating in value though so worth it in the long run and sensible to keep it as original as possible.
Sadly by the time I get around to buying one all the reasonably priced ones will have gone

Most seem to be priced around or above £20k these days.
