I've clearly read that wrong!?
The gimp mask he's wearing doesn't help, but that was my take-away too!
To be fair - since we collectively wore out Beany’s (extensive) donkey pron collection, there’s been a bit of a drought….
You barely edged the surface of my collection.

Don’t Worry Darling

Interesting one this without being remarkable. Still not convinced by Harry Styles the Actor but he had more to do here than Dunkirk so he still needs a meaty role to prove himself. Florence Pugh on the other hand shows she’s one of the best actors working today. She really is excellent

This next one was a rare treat as you don’t often get to watch a film you’ve seen loads of times with someone who has never seen it - but the other half had never seen it amazingly

The Deer Hunter

Yeah, she’s never seen it. It’s still truly brilliant even after all these years. Every scene with John Cazale is incredibly poignant, given the circumstances.

The Fablemans

It’s a beautifully made film, superb acting (particularly Michelle Williams) and very well written but…

With all the Oscars hype, I was expecting more to be honest. It’s a nice film but not great

Mission Impossible - Utterly mind-blowing in IMAX. Even that stunt we've all seen before on YouTube blows the mind when you see it on that big screen - and it's just the start of the final action sequence. The pace they keep up is absolutely incredible. It's a 2.5 hour long movie which flies by. Lots of nods back to the original 1996 movie and of course the storyline is bobbins, but it's one of the most thrilling and nail biting movies I can remember seeing in the cinema. The car chases (and crashes) in particular are really well shot and puts you right in the middle of them.

Great big honking soundtrack too.

Ar agree with all that. Car chase is indeed a) excellent and b) very Roger Moore Bond inspired I reckon, and one of the baddies is very Grace Jones too. Some Vesper Lynd Venice vibes as well.

Dialogue is LOL funny at various points tho, but of course that's part of the entertainment of this series

I have seen some people online complaining about the plot holes etc, as if this was a documentary.

That last sequence though literally had me on the edge of my seat and could feel the tension. They just kept ratcheting up the suspense and jeopardy.

When they arrived in Venice it was almost like the exact "building under construction" vibe from QOS.

Films should still make an effort not to leave plot holes - they're not documentaries, but I find plot holes distract from stories and take you out of the experience.

I think in this case people are saying "well, that would never happen" and "why is the sentient AI behaving like that?" when watching a Mission Impossible movie.

Barbie. I fell asleep. The film was a triumph of marketing.

I thought Barbie was on par with Mission Impossible. 6/10

I mean it’s impressive and funny and witty etc, but also seemed to miss something. I’d agree with 6/10

Spoiler
Ken didn’t get with Barbie to make it end in typical happily ever after fashion. I can respect that  fuck Ken

My daughter thought it was OK, but more depressing than Oppenheimer. Which almost makes me want to see it.

That's interesting your daughters said that as a pal of mine described Barbie as 'dark', which seems ironic given the proliferation of pinkness that surrounds the movie.

I haven't seen it but from what I've read/seen (basically one of my favourite YouTube film critics "the critical drinker") it's a pretty odd message. Basically misogyny reversed!

Oppenheimer - on IMAX

Fantastic performances by Murphy, Blunt, RDJ and Pugh. The trinity test scene was absolutely brilliant.

Overall it’s a very good film but I’d be surprised if it appears in anyone’s too 5 or top 10. But wait and see, It’ll probably clean up at the Oscar’s

Minor gripe - sound was too loud in the cinema, meaning some dialogue was distorted.

Worth it though for the Trinity Test sound though. Nearly lifted me out of the chair…

Utterly batshit. But somehow it all sorts of makes sense by the end and comes together. There were moments in the first half I genuinely wondered wtf was going on but I decided to carry on drinking and just see what happened. The Mrs came home after an all day drinking sesh, at about halfway through and wondered wtf I was watching

Will definitely watch again. 10 "no way - Data/Short Round still sounds the same as a middle aged man!" out of 10
Just realised it is on Prime - will watch again with Mrs mik 😎

Yeah, this has been a common complaint - apparently the sound has been mixed to be 'authentic' rather than, you know, actually listenable, because Nolan is turning into a fucking auteur and doesn't care what a cinema sound system sound likes, or a telly with a soundbar, but wants to make sure it sounds like wit reality would sound like on his perfectly balanced studio monitors in a soundproofed room.

Oddly, picking peoples voices out in a loud room is a pain in the arse and thus so it appears to be in the film - so I, er, hear.

Yeah I read about that - he never re-records or dubs anything so what you hear is what was recorded on the day the scene was filmed. to give it that "Like you're in the room" feel.

The Pretentious Wankometer just moved a few degrees to the right...
