Guardians of the Galaxy 3

If you enjoyed the first 2, you will enjoy it. It was a good way of tying up the GOTG films although a little like the end of Civil War.

Some of it was quite slow but overall a thumbs up.

Won't put spoilers.

It was a good enough wrap up. But some severe mood whiplash particular on the animal cruelty side. Rocket Racoon's backstory is, as expected, pretty tragic.

I like Nathan Fillion but I wouldn't have noticed if that entire section of the film was cut and it was closer to 2 hours.

Ah, the guy from the Rookie, I recognised him for Sky adverts. It was funny in that it was a conversation most of us have had and I did laugh at it.

I really enjoyed it but found it a really tough watch with the Rocket storyline - especially as they kept flashing back to it. Was a fitting end to the trilogy though, its not often they stick the landing like that across three movies.

The Irony of Fate (Pt 1)

1970s Russian film about a man who gets very drunk on New Year's Eve and accidentally ends up in the wrong city. Slightly farcical but rather wholesome comedy that's really quite entertaining.

John Wick 4

People have said it's the best of the series, and they're probably right. The standard 'action scenes interspersed with a few minutes of dialogue' but very well honed.

The "one take shot" in particular is extremely well done (obviously not one actual take - some clever hidden cuts etc) and reminded me a lot of Hotline Miami.

Definitely worth a poke.

Very cool, although the 2nd if my all time favourite film the original certainly absolutely rocks.

Shame the whole universe went severely sideways (on film at least, the graphic novels that diverge from the films are really good) even Ridley Scott's attempt to resurrect the franchise resulted in one terribad stinker and another with enough plotholes to sink the Nostromo.

No idea what to think of the forthcoming made for streaming Alien:Romulus

Chris Hemsworth plays a young buff John Wick, killing it must be at least 100 serving Bangladeshi Policemen while escaping Dhaka in order to rescue the son of an Indian Drug Lord. Why oh why did I think this would be worth a watch.

Mads Mikkelsen plays an old, greying John Wick, killing at least 50 henchmen while escaping a torture chamber in order to rescue his innocent next door neighbor.

This one is a missed opportunity - I fell victim to the premise. Aging Assassin for a shady syndicate, drawn in for one last job, double crossed and going after the double crossers. I fell victim to the star - Mads Mikkelsen does good films... Right???

But then Matt Lucas arrived in a Yellow Suit as the Cartoon leader of the syndicate.. No seriously...



Then it just descended into farce - ludicrous killing sequences with the "Dream Team" of assassins, hugely unnecessary sex scenes (no-one wants, nor needs to see that ) Laughable to be honest.

Nice little twist at the end but misses the mark by miles. Which is a shame because if the Shadowy Syndicate were more modern and "normal" and not cartoony, there's a decent story here but no, completely misses the point

2 totally unnecessary views of Mads Mikkelsen's arse out of 10.

I watched Polar last night - its brilliant if you don't take it too seriously. Worthy of a Wednesday night chill out film. Matt Lucas is hilarious.

Polar sounds like a good premise - I've always thought they could do something like that with James Bond. Have a standalone movie where someone like Dalton or Brosnan is brought back for one final mission as an aging, retired agent.

My Octopus Teacher

Netflix film documentary, so I am putting it here rather than the TV thread (where I would normally expect documentaries to sit).

I'm not even sure what triggered me to put this on, but wow . Absolutely stunning images, and a faintly believable story of a man who builds a relationship with a wild - yep - you guessed it. It's like something out of a disney cartoon.

It's pretty slow moving - intentionally - the images help prevent you losing interest.

I have no idea what resources you have to have to enable you to spend such time doing this kind of shit, but I'm kinda jealous.

9 gently floating kelp leaves out of 10 for me. Thoroughly recommended.

Spiderverse 2 I loved first one and had very high expectations for the second and they were well met.

The time absolutely flew by even though it's nearly two and half hours (although our awesome local cinema doesn't do previews or ads for long films) animation quality was beautiful although some of style choices, and there were a lot of different things thrown at the screen, we're pretty weird and sometimes distracting.

Story was batshit crazy but absolutely heaps of fun.

Best superhero movie since the first one and up there for best animation ever.

Insane amount of cameos as you might guess from the ads.

I've not been able to eat octopus since watching a documentary on the Beeb I think, a few years ago, where a reseracher/professor keeps one in his house and strikes up a fascinating relationship with it (not in that way ffs, have a look at yourself). They're incredible creatures really, and astoundingly intelligent in ways we're only just beginning to understand.
