Nigel Mansell's 1992 Williams, or Damon Hill's 1994 car next. I don't mind which.
Re: New Top Gear
Stunt driver for TG, films etc. Very handy behind the wheel.
(I assumed he would be all Italian-twang when I saw him presenting on film, and was bitterly disappointed to hear he is pure cockerknee. I advised him of this via twitter, and he was amused, so I declare him not to be a nob at all).

Re: New Top Gear
They should definitely make the "historic" piece a regular thing, the kids were sitting slack-jawed watching the rally footage last night.
They're so close to getting the format nailed.

Just watching it now, Mcrae bit was excellent, it got a bit dusty in here.
Also, good to see Stubsie, met him at the IOM TT many years ago, he's a good mate of my mate racist Jimmy. He's a fully fledger biker so it was good to see him launch that ambulance

Re: New Top Gear
I still haven’t watched last season’s TG since Paddy and whatshisface cricketer joined. So about 12 episodes on my iPlayer to catch up.
Re: New Top Gear
Can't get dusty eye'd over Mcrae when he killed his own kid and someone elses by being a cock. Soz.
Re: New Top Gear
Just seen the McRae bit - awesome piece of TV.
Re: New Top Gear
Yeah, that was my wife's immediate reaction when they started gushing over him.
Cheers,

Re: New Top Gear
I was surprised that they didn’t so much as mention the word “helicopter” in the whole segment.
It doesn’t taint his professional successes for me, or my awe at the way he pedalled a car, but since the investigation placed blame for the accident squarely with him as a pilot, and the reckless flight behaviour noted - it has to impact my perception on him as a person. Whilst remembering that it was still a (probably avoidable) accident...
I hope they do something similar for Burns.

Me also. I commented after watching tot he wife that it was interesting that Burns was never as well liked at the time, probably because of that odd British trait of not liking people who are reserved (see Froome also vs. Wiggins). We seem to like a maverick even if they're a bit of a plank, as opposed the professional. However, his death seemed to change all that, and it seemed it took that for a nation to realise what they had with Burns.

McRae was always a bit of a cock as an individual but it definitely didn’t take away from his entertainment value as a driver. A bit like Carl Fogarty in lots of ways. I didn’t really like Burns, either. I always thought he was an arrogant tosser and boring to watch compared to McRae.

See also Froome to a lot of British. It's an odd trait that we have. Of course many of the best are arrogant - they have to be - but somehow by being a bit of a clown it's acceptable. To some degree also Hamilton vs. say Button.NotoriousREV wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2020 11:24 am McRae was always a bit of a cock as an individual but it definitely didn’t take away from his entertainment value as a driver.
