Did they use a kitchen knife for the gear stick?

The French are usually good for anything like this. Rev's R5 wheel love reminded me that the mk1 Clio 16v/Williams was a very similar wheel. I also grew up with BXs so love the mono-spoke designs.

Facelift R25 had this that I always liked:

The R16 had this utter beaut:

I love that stalk in the dash on that last one.

The MOMO wheel I put in my E30 M3 was lovely, same one that was in my Caterham too.

Utter perfection. That's the exact wheel I have in mind when I think 'perfect steering wheel' which happens quite often for some reason.

Porsche 968 Club Sport steering wheel is one of the nicest. As is the early S2 Elise wheel (same as the S1s but with alcantara on the boss).

Correctness. I fitted the same Momo Corse to my first E30. I then moved it onto each E30 I had, 2 x E34 M5s, my 205 race car a 944 track car and briefly one on my MX5s.

Did you really also have it on a Caterham or was it just something similar? Smallest Momo Corse is 320mm and it'd be very hard to fit into a Caterham with a wheel that large. For instance, mine had a 260mm Momo fitted.

I still have my Momo Corse BTW, it's been carefully wrapped in bubble wrap in the garage waiting for something suitable late '80s / early '90s to fit it too again.

Not that exact same wheel, no, like you say it would be too big. I found a pic - MOMO but slightly different

That's a Momo model 26. I had the suede version on mine.

Best wheel ever IMO is a Momo 78 IMO. Specifically the 320mm suede one.

It's the F40 OEM wheel. In fact the first one i had was off an F40. 8-) I've bought 3 or 4 of them to fit to various cars. I just wish they made a 300mm version so you could fit one to an Elise.

I think it's a 350mm Monza on the MK1 MX5 but it's been so long since I've been and looked at mine I can't quite remember 🤯
