The E-class is based on the previous generation platform, this 5-series was an entirely new platform for both ICE and EV so it’s not surprising it’s less compromised. The batteries arent just under the boot floor I think.
Whilst true, the E53 does have a bigger battery. It's 28kwh compared to 18kwh in the M5.

Silverstone interior is right - I was intrigued by the lagoon interior but there were no cars in the system with it and I had to choose from the dealer’s stock. Still 22 cars I think.

Marina Bay Blue then.

No, I wasn’t sure about it anyway but someone else in our village already has one in blue so that was a no. It’s an Individual colour to make guessing a bit harder.

So I’ll give you a clue: the exterior colour has the same name as an Audi colour but it’s not the same colour.

No, no and no. My clue is probably a bit mean. But as soon as I saw they had one in this colour I said yes, that’s the one.

Over £24,000 off list price. Happy with that.
I need to do better at reading comprehension as I didn't realise you were after the touring, hence my RS4 confusion....alas I won't take back my comments about the interior ;) but +2 on the score for being a Touring.

Oh, and it's gotta be Techno-Violet, surely?!?

Close enough - it’s Daytona Violet. E34 M5 vibes.

Good luck with it.

This is another BMW to add to the list of cars that I wouldn't touch with a barge pole when announced but slowly warming to. Not feeling its weight is the most important part, when monkey did a video on the yellow one and wasn't allowed to drive it on track, I didn't worry but it does seem that they have made a drivers car out off it.

Price wise, they look good value in todays market then you consider a Giulia quadrifoglio can be speed to almost £120k

Good choice! Surprised you didn't go for the dark violet interior with that exterior colour.

Anyway, what other options did you spec? Wheels etc?

You can also spend £50k on a Smart car and £90k on an Audi A3. RRP prices are meaningless these days.

I suspect the hybrid element the M5 means it works out well on the old BIK. Fleetnews reports as low as £333/month, which, lets be honest, is incredibly cheap for a car of this calibre.

I’m not buying it through the business. It’s cheap on BIK for 2 years but you still need to pay for the car, and in 2 years’ time PHEVs are losing the cheap BIK rates.

Also, RRPs aren’t totally meaningless. As they keep rising with inflation that helps slow depreciation. When an equivalent fast estate (like the next RS6) is ~£150k, a 2yr old M5 Touring for £90k will look great value.

Bah, I was thinking of that sort of colour (like a reverse Cayenne) but didn't make the link with the name. I had hoped Ruby fitted :P

The first time I was aware there was an e34 M5 Touring was when I saw one in a breakers, coincidentally Violet with a light interior. Its story was it had gone off the road in Scotland, and it looked like it had been from a high road onto a low road landing squarely on its roof - it was flat

Yes, it’s replacing the S6. I’m not sure if I’ll bother replacing the Jimny with an old Touareg as I had planned but that’s going too; I suspect another car won’t get that much use and will just end up being an administrative pain for the few tip runs it’d do. We will see - there may be some merit in having a diesel SUV with a 100 litre fuel tank if this war goes on a while 😄
