Anyone suggesting the buy & resell option and linking to a dealer car - just put the details in to WBAC and see what the net cost is.
Guessing the details on the Maserati because the reg isn’t shown, it comes back at £49k - a £15k loss - and that’s before they’ve seen the jobbo interior.
If you’re going to pull it off you need a private slightly motivated / persuadable seller, and then enough time afterwards to find the right buyer.
@GG. - the per diem approach is misleading wrt to value. Every day in Italy, driving & enjoying the car, is the value. Parked up at home while he’s at work halfway around the world, not value. Risk, in fact.

They’re not - trust me, I know
However, if anyone wants to hire a 360 for £5k/fortnight, PM me

Steer clear of any cities if you do buy a car - Italian parking sensors involve waiting to hear the crunch of bumpers.

Maybe in absolute terms but not likely on a per diem basis assuming Ian keeps in for a couple of months.
Isn’t this a better answer?

Overall cost once you’ve resold it will be less than a decent rental, and that V8 is a superb continent crosser.
I want Italian or reliable (or even both!): the Jag is neither!
I had a first gen XKR, not something I wish to repeat tbh..
Maybe renting something here and driving has potential.. will investigate this evening
The second gen XK is a world away from the first, which felt old even when they were current. Drive the late model 5.0 and you’d wonder why someone bothers with the pain of Maserati ownership unless you really need back seats.

I remember seeing cars physically pushing other cars to fit into parking spaces in Rome. I drove to Milan in my e46 M3, but left it in the nice hotel carpark and went into the city by train!

Same here. I guess one good thing about new cars which have their front bumper loaded with various safety sensors and radar is that the bump parking pricks on the continent will learn pretty sharpish that you can't do that anymore.

I’ve driven through Naples a couple of times. I view it the same as London ie: it’s ok to drive like a cunt because everyone else is so it’s accepted and expected. Just a bit extra in Italy.
It’s like having a day off from being a nice driver.

Yep Naples was cool for driving in, my only worry was parking and the potential to get utterly shafted by the rental company for any damage. Luckily that was easily solved by pinning all the best multi storey carp arks before setting off.

Buy this. Drive it to Italy. Then drive it back and keep it. The end.
(OK. OK. Maybe have it shipped there and back

What a horrible experience. Can you even hire a classic car there?

We did the Maldives last year - the first time you open your curtains and see “your” beach is fairly mind blowing.
I also caught a 3 foot shark with a hand line, which was fun!

I asked my butler and she said “unfortunately not”..
I really want a F12 now, but a couple of 1970’s Italian somethings from the years myself and my partner were born appeals equally!..

How long did it take you to get bored of the view?
I’ve been snorkelling every day, and had some reef sharks swim by.. it’s unnerving until you think about the actual dynamics of an animal of equal size (or smaller) trying to eat you; “Jaws” has a lot to answer for..

Go get your scuba gear. Maldives is bucket list territory when it comes to diving.
