Solid state is still very much being developed, and the ones really talking it up are those who are behind on current mainstream batteries and clinging on to the hope of it saving them, or those with vested interests in delaying EV adoption. The energy densities and charge/discharge rates are great but they're really fragile, both physically and in terms of internal damage as they're charged and discharged.

Bear in mind lithium ion was first properly developed in the 80s, the new wave of LFP batteries (used by Tesla and the like) are from the 90s. It takes a long time to go from early prototypes to viable commercial products.

This, I think it’s just their way of trying to catch up on investment. I think the more established EV manufacturers tested them out and they all failed long term testing. And testing these things takes year because batteries don’t really degrade with cycles much but more with age.

Just discovered desert island discs on apple podcasts for the first time. Never given it a second glance before but have so far enjoyed interviews with Ronnie O'Sullivan, Cillian Murphy and Jamie Dornan. Just a nice format to follow.

Also took my daughter to Hollister and had a browse myself. Saw they had stretchy chinos with zip pockets and immediately liked them as looking 'comfortable' and 'practical'. Whats happened to me!

@Holley: downloaded. Most of the podcasts I listen to are legal or journalistic so the first episode looks like an excellent combo of the two.

With podcasting, if you're not already a personality then finding a topic that hasn't already been covered must be pretty hard. Well done to her on finding this niche.

Had to pop out in the car so have listened to about 80% of E1.

The interaction between presenters came across as very natural and unscripted. Which is obviously good. And they bounced ideas/suggestions/summations off each other convincingly. I found it pretty engaging, with some interesting technical explanations (primarily by your sister). Audio quality wasn't awesome, but it didn't grate excessively.

They did give a very brief summary of their areas of expertise, but as I don't know either I'd have appreciated that they share more : elements that might add greater credibility to the commentary that followed.

And like Dinny - the incidental music annoyed me a little, but I was more frustrated by the timing of it's interruption, which seemed rather random at times.

I listened at 1.2x normal speed, but I do that for all podcasts, cos I am an impatient bastard.

As a first attempt however - very much kudos. I've subscribed too.

Most of the podcast stuff I listen to is either Patreon related (so not publicly available) or mixed media (IE long form youtube but also works as a podcast)

Myths and cryptids discussed with a couple of fairly dry PHD types, who cite their sources well and don't rely on social media etc. Quite good in the car on long trips as you don't have to touch the head unit for over an hour

Progressive/lefty politically orientated content, very US based but a handy source for what the comedically useless parts of the Right are up to. Fair and Balanced (tm)
The show (Some More News) is more produced and themed per episode and works better on youtube (due to occasional visual gags), sometimes on something current events (police policy and training), sometimes not (Reagan Retrospective recently and how it's influenced the current american right), the podcast (Even More News) is more of a round up of current events and general thoughts on them.
I don't agree with all of it and while they use Fair and Balanced as a bit of a joke, they're self aware enough to know that not everyone will agree with them, and it's invariably highly entertaining.

Alt Shift X Podcasts/Glidus

This is more of a content specific thing, there's huge amounts of lore in GRRMs work and he's pretty good at breaking it down and discussing it in detail, among some other fantasy/scifi stuff and the podcast channel is where longer form stuff goes. If you're a fan of Game of Thrones/HotD then it's worth a look. Also often collaborates with Glidus, who is equally knowledgeable on the subject and significantly more irreverent about it.

Glidus is not podcast, but the videos he does are often well over an hour, and extremely detailed and if you watched the show being discussed chances are you don't need the visuals - if you have a youtube player that can play with screen off on mobile, they might as well be podcasts.

Basically anything AltShiftX/Glidus related is a strong recommend for GRRM fans.

Have we already had a recommendation for this? Ex-copper swears in the audience as police-for-the-evening and walks through real-life scenarios. Stops at every decision point and asks the audience how they would proceed, what actions they'd take, refers back to police guidance and his own thought processes.

Amusing tales told by a very funny bloke. Lots of laughs. Recommended.
