Even more bizarre/lazy when you consider the fact that I am old enough to have happily waited 5 minutes for my zx spectrum to load fantasy world dizzy.

Yeah i had this issue whn i was using the wheel stand. The solution in my case was to buy a permanently constructed and non foldable GT Omega ART cockpit. This does take a bit of commitment and understanding from the misses though :lol:

It does however get well used. I use it at least two nights a week and the boys use it at other times as well.

ETA - I got it for an absolute steal off off marketplace. Woman had bought it for her son and he'd never used it so she wanted the space back. £150

This week I have mostly been swearing at a pretend KTM Crossbow at pretend Imola on AC. It's well known as a crap car but a nicked setup has helped. Now I just need to download some more talent from somewhere.

I refuse to buy one for this reason.

I see Rory (full time youtube sim racing "creator") is attempting a 200 lap race of the combined Nurburgring GP & Nordschleife track on GT7.

So that's around 30hrs non-stop. :? (without any driver changes etc obvs)

I just took a look before a meeting - he's on lap 161 of 200.

I watched for about 90 seconds, and in that space of time one viewer donated £99. :o I expect that's quite extraordinary, but I suspect he'll do pretty well out of this from donations alone....


Edit: just popped on again and in the space of approx 3mins he had the one donation of £2 and another of £5, but there was a comment that the prior donation was $395 (US) :shock:

Just seen this, and skipped to the end - he made well into 5 figures, by the looks of it. He was on about £8k running upto the end then had a massive glut of people donating $100-$200 and loads of £10-£50 as well.

I thought it was for charity, which was fair enough....but then he just said "thanks for supporting me and my family" when talking about all the donations. I mean, I enjoy the content, but I don't get why you'd give a random internet person £50 for sitting on a chair for 24 hours playing games, but maybe I'm a miserable, tight fisted bastard.

He gave up his job to chase fame & fortune as a 'choob kontent kreator. Folks pay to be channel members (a la patreon) and people drop donations every day (rarely to that level though). I subscribe to his channel & drop in occasionally, but have never felt the urge to "dono" either - I think it's what the kids these days do :?:

Your Irregular Reminder that BeamNG still exists and is still somewhere between a deadly serious physics sim, and a goofy bit of fun and is absolutely worth the £20 asked of it.



There have been many updates since, from 0.32:

The kinda goofy part:


The deadly serious physics sim part - because of course you want physically simulated pneumatics in your silly sandbox.


The "here, have a laugh with this" part:


They did a teaser for this with the big drift BX on twitter, but it actually teased that properly perspective correct real time wing mirror self reflections were being rolled out to other vehicles, previewed on lorries in 0.31:



It also now has speed cameras and insurance in 'career' mode :lol: including premium hikes if you crash too much.

It's a proper mix of deadly serious, and seriously silly, and if you like sims you owe yourself a slap on the wrist if you haven't looked at it.

The only things it really lacks are weather, and hardcore aero sims - but rumours abound those are coming and when they do if it's like anything else they've done, it'll make Assetto Corsa look like fucking Mario Kart.

There's even a (fairly) rudimentary VR mode....in a game with pretty solid soft body physics modelling...enjoy rolling off a cliff with that one.

Yeah but Turtle Beach isn't generally a well respected brand. I don't know anything about that wheel though.

Playing ProjectCars2 for an hour or so last night. Decent group of 10 online - chatting in English (which is relatively unusual - there are a group who I quite regularly find myself racing with, but most of them only speak Spanish). :)

Following a fairly dysmal result at Circuit Of Americas (I know the track, but I don't really know the track), we're now at Oulton Park - doing the full "International" circuit (my favourite option), with everyone in an old Mk1 Escort using a default setup to keep it as level a playing field as possible. :geek:

(Locking the option to "default setups" means one of two un-editable choices only - "Stable" or "Loose". The latter option generally swaps the front end tracking from slight toe-in to a smidge of toe-out - to sharpen the turn-in, reduces the toe-in level at the rear, adds a bit more camber, and makes the ltd-slip diff act with a bit more aggression. "Stable" is therefore more...erm... stable, great for noobs or when you are at a track you aren't fully intimate with, but it's generally slower. Ain't nobody be wantin' that :ugeek: <selects Loose> ).

Just a 5 lap race with a 10min quali session. I make 3rd. I get a decent but not perfect start, and I'm dropped to 4th by the first corner, which we all make it through OK. In the tricky downhill braking zone for cascades however, the car following me gets a bit overexcited and misses his mark - I get rammed hard in the rear, pushing me into the car I was following. 3 of us end up on the grass, and by the time I get back to tarmac I find myself in 10th (ie last) place. That's awesome. :|

Eldest miklet isn't usually interested, but whilst wandering past the room he stops and watches me start to fight back through the field. He's kinda fascinated by how much the car moves around compared to the GT3's he generally sees me "driving", so he stays to watch. I manage to make a couple of decent overtakes, but mostly I recover places via others spinning off or hitting each other. :?

Heading into the final lap I am somehow back in 4th again, with another car following close behind me. 1st and 2nd are long gone, and 3rd place is a good 20m in front of me as we barrel along the start/finish straight (which is a curve at Oulton - do keep up). I'm not likely to make that up on the last lap. :| I jokingly say to the boy "Shall I switch my headlights on just as he reaches the braking zone for Old Hall - see if I can distract him?".

"He he - yeah right".

Boy in front turns in and we watch the arse of his Escort gracefully swing out, but it's continuing well past a point of oversteer that might be considered optimal. It's a long corner with a late apex. He manages to catch the slide, but he's lost time. Unfortunately he over-corrects and suddenly dissapears off track in the opposite direction, heading directly towards the barrier. We don't even see the impact as I haven't backed off and I'm already with him, but eldest miklet and I simultaneously shout/scream/squawk expletives. :D I then nearly drop it several times over the final lap because we are absolutely pissing ourselves. :lol: Bloke following me is now right on my bumper and I need to be defensive or I'm going to lose the place. I have absolutely no idea if my lights had any influence on the incident, but the timing was just perfect. I'm mashing and sawing like a mofo, wiping tears from my eyes so I can locate the braking point for the final bend. I just make the final step on the podium without the guy behind (who is presumably not crippled with laughter) sneaking by.

That were great. 8-) :lol:
