I had the strongest beer I've ever had a few months ago at 15.5%. It was sensational. It was a bit more fancy than Special Brew though (and a bit more expensive!).Carlos wrote: Sat Nov 18, 2023 12:56 am It used to be more than 7.5% but the UK Duty rules brought it down.
It used to be like treacle but now you need to pay up for micro brewery 10% treacle at £6 a half for that nonsense lol

Didn't there used to be a taboo around this level of emboozlement in beer then Brewdog challenged it with tactical nuclear penguin?

We got a bottle of tactical nuclear penguin many years ago, it was quite a lot, about75-100 quid I think, and it looked and tasted like volcanic Calpol.
Quadruple IPA.
Nice to try once, but that was enough

I had a look for FAXE in my local Lidl last night. Couldn't find it.

It wasn't in the main beer section, it was where they have "specials" stacked up on pallets.Beany wrote: Sun Nov 19, 2023 12:07 pm I had a look for FAXE in my local Lidl last night. Couldn't find it.

Traditionally high strength booze made from a grain mash had other names (barley wine etc)Explosive Newt wrote: Sun Nov 19, 2023 11:53 am Didn't there used to be a taboo around this level of emboozlement in beer then Brewdog challenged it with tactical nuclear penguin?
The cold distillation process they developed to make those beers was cool though.

Lidl Blackwater RIGHT NOW:
Re: PSA: FAXE @ LIDL
So what's the deal with that anyway. Is it nice or is it just like special brew/malt liquor where they pack it full of sugar so it ferments more?

Pretty much yeah. It’s not normally available here, so it’s a novelty, and it reminds me of the road trip I did with Gavster last year. It’s a change of scenery from the Merlot-in-a-box I normally drink. There’s no need to over-think itZedLeg wrote: Mon Nov 20, 2023 10:52 am…is it just like special brew/malt liquor where they pack it full of sugar so it ferments more?
Re: PSA: FAXE @ LIDL
That's fair, I would buy malt liquor whenever I saw it for the novelty, even though really sweet beer isn't something I've ever wanted
.

It's not *really* sweet. Just a little bit sweet to partially cover the burning sensation from the alcohol.
