I specced up a Dakar yesterday as it is now on the configuration. The Rothmans lookalike paint job is over £18k as an option; the standard colours are pretty limited but the configurator allows you to see a wide range of Paint To Sample colours. I rather fancy mine in Rubystar or Viola.

However, after going through the relatively limited choice of interior colours (just changing the stitching, basically) and other options I didn’t feel like I’d particularly been able to personalise it. There’s no long range fuel tank option, sadly, and the alloys I don’t like are the only ones available - in different colours, of course, but even they are limited compared to the Macan or Taycan choices.

So even if I was genuinely serious about ordering a £189k (as specced) car which I really rather like, I don’t feel it and therefore won’t be saving like mad and remortgaging to have one.

I came on here to splutter over the cost of the “part painted” livery, but @Jobbo was way ahead of me.

They'll be disappointed when they realise you can't PPF that.

I do love that car but wonder who's buying them and what they plan to do with them other than just driving them round the UK roads like any other 911? I'm sure a small percentage will be time and cash rich enough to use it off-road in the UK and abroad and not care about the cost, damage, repairs etc.

@Ascender I am at the opposite end - Dakar does nothing for me. I suspect less than 5 will see anything approaching “off road” - certainly far less than will go to some personal collection or be squirrelled away as an investment. It’s the (current) 911 way.

Quite cool, but wouldn't be something I was looking it if I had the money. I'd be pleased to spot one though.

They’ll be pretty good for the roads around Surrey. The potholes are so big now the council just chucks a traffic cone in them.

I wonder how much someone like Tuthill would charge to build a lifted rally 930, like the one Matt Farah had built.

Yeah, that's very true. They'll be tucked away with delivery miles.

I love the look of it ploughing through the desert dunes, but I don't know what I'd do with it in the UK. Presumably it's not going to have enough clearance or good enough suspension for proper off-road UK stuff?

Hopefully one privileged YouTuber somewhere will buy one and test it in as many extreme environments as possible.

I mean, this does look fun, but how often is anyone going to have the chance to do this.
