Still. £3k. Erk

I didn’t realise they had a clutch pack in there.Jimmy Choo wrote: Wed Nov 29, 2023 11:17 am
Well.... My estimate of a grand was much, much too low. a clutch has gone and it needs a rebuild. £3,090 and they can't guarantee that they'll get it done by Christmas.![]()
These days I guess you are right. I've never taken a massive interest in autos to be honest, so I just imagined a big torque convertor like in days gone by.
Oof. Similar to my old SLK55. "It'll just be the controller unit, about £500". Turns out the whole thing needed a rebuild, £2500 later...Jimmy Choo wrote: Wed Nov 29, 2023 11:17 amWell.... There's an automatic gearbox specialist a mile and a half from my house so I'll get it booked in. Looking online it seems that a service /repair will be £350 and a reconditioned box is a grand fitted.
Of course, with a freshened box, (and subject to checking the torque limits on the box) a remap might be a fun way to celebrate...![]()
It's a non ULEZ, thirsty barge. It's worth about £250. The rest of it is solid, though. The interior is in good condition, it doesn't leak, the engine is strong and the suspension is surprisingly taut. Anything else I replaced it with would have it's own foibles and issues that I'd have to deal with.Matty wrote: Thu Nov 30, 2023 4:35 pm

Not sure I'd want to drop £3k on the car though....depends how much you enjoy it and how solid the rest?
What's it worth with a broken box?
I thought the same when I read it. Also, why quit now? If it is that close to being finished, surely it is worth more as a complete, working car.Sundayjumper wrote: Wed Dec 06, 2023 9:44 am LOL. No
I'm enjoying the way the ad goes on about the Marek engine being a major feature of this model and then casually mentions that it's missing. I bet they're not easy to come by.
It's a harmless question but - the car is nearly sixty years old. Are they expecting a 1-owner time warp, despite the photos & the description ?Hi how many owners has it had ?
