Retest passed and I got away on holiday. It feels like a really big car on Devon's tiny, tiny roads.

This weekend a couple of niggly tasks were done. The dashcam cable got tucked away behind the A pillar trim and the associated airbag. I also cleaned up the blu-tac that the previous owner used to hold their dashcam cable out of the way.

Slightly more convoluted was the windscreen washer jet on the drivers side not squirting high enough. The E60 nozzles aren't adjustable but apparently there is a mesh screen on the motor that can get sludged up. Loosening up the wheel arch liner got access and the mesh was indeed rather disgusting. It's not perfect but it's better. I'll blow through the pipes later to see if that helps.

We were on the other side of Dartmoor, just outside Totnes. Totnes is lovely. If there was going to be a Harp shop anywhere, it would be in Totnes.

Made the 600 mile trip to visit my folks in SW France last week, the old Mondeo was as nigh on perfect as you’d want on that trip. Super quiet, average mpg actually went up, sits at 130 kph with easy roll-on speed available. Loads of room for the kids. Lovely.

It’s mad hot here, mid to high 30s, and the French seem to think hosing down the road and throwing what looks like cement dust down is a good way of combating the melting roads. So it now has a natty two-tone finish



They don’t like you washing your car at home here, so we went to a self-wash station this morning to try and clean it off. My Daughter enjoyed it, although I think I got wetter than the car

I finally opened my box of Bilt Hamber products at the weekend. Only ordered them a couple of months ago. Some are for attending to the rust on the tailgate, but I also got some Korrosol (fallout remover), Autowheel, and a citrus AC bomb.

Having had the AC sorted (when I say sorted, they didn't do anything but somehow it's now magically actually cold )it needed a freshen up as it's always smelled a bit musty. Have to say teh AC bomb has done a good job so far - just need to remove the residue off the screen which I hadn't noticed.

The Korrosol and Autowheel were also pretty good I have to say - I seemed to use much less of the Korrosol than I have of Auto Glym's version in the past. And the wheel cleaner is a bit like using undiluted Bilberry. I ran out time really as I wanted to clay and wax it as wel but there was no chance of that. Will have to be another weekend.

I’ve been using their wheel cleaner for years it’s good stuff but do wash it off the centre caps in good time. I reckon it’s what lead to my Skoda centres deteriorating as they did.

I was following an absolute cocksocket down a narrow little country lane today. This person couldn’t drive at all, couldn’t reverse, thought their Yaris was wider than a lorry and struggled to get past each oncoming car. Genuinely doing about 10-15 mph.
Eventually they misjudge the width of their car again and drive onto the fucking bank, and a dislodge an arm sized branch onto the road. At this point there’s about 30 pissed cars behind me due to this dawdling fucknugget so I’m not going to stop and move it aside.
Over the branch I go and the fucker bends back up and scrapes across the car making a nice inch thick scratch. Really pissed off at this point.

The stupid thing is the cunt just turned in from of me whilst I was doing 45 mph on a clear sighted road and proceeded to drive like that. If you know you’re a slow dim witted twat why do that? I’ve noticed it a lot recently. Twats turning in front suddenly and then driving less than half the speed limit. That’s a fucking fail on a driving test.
I should just buy that Humvee and flatten the twats.

This - its brilliant at stripping dirt off the wheels really easily...and stripping the laquer/paint of the centre caps.

Talking of cleaning wheels, what do people use as a utensil? I've used a few in the past and they've all been pretty poor and getting in the groves or providing any real agitation. Got a Halfords wheel brush (poor) and a Autoglym one (hard work)...I've been suggested a wheel wooley but they're not cheap.

The proper branded Wheel Woolies are worth it. They don’t degrade and end up losing all their erm, wool over time.

I'm still using an EZ detail brush. Gets in my MV3s no trouble. I tend to go over the wheel faces with an old wash mitt

Did a Caterham drift day, started off simple and got progressively more difficult.

The grey car was being driven by a lady who left 7 years ago to go on maternity leave and returned to work at Caterham today. She nailed it on her first try after all that time and was the only person to not hit a single cone all day. Extremely impressive.
I don’t think I’d be very good at those Autosolos that are much loved on here - these were short drift layouts and I found the cones confusing enough! And that’s before you spin out, lose your bearings for a while to figure out where you are and where you need to go

It’s easy to do a donut, or to kick the back end of a car out but it’s very difficult to transition drifts and do a donut precisely around a cone. Probably would have got it if I had another day and whilst I really wanted more seat time I did finish the day with blisters on my hand so I’m now thinking it was more than enough.

The cars were all very impressive as well. 360Rs with linglongs on the rear. 26 degrees today with the cars only being driven in first gear, bouncing off the limiter a lot and not really going fast enough for airflow to cool them down and they didn’t miss a beat. Every so often a tyre would blow and get replaced in a few mins.

Probably not helped by it but I doubt that was the cause, the Skodas I used to have all went a bit shit quite quickly

I've got a few hundred quid of red letter vouchers left - I want to do some drifting. That has inspired me a little.

There was one of those supercar experiences going on opposite but it looked thoroughly underwhelming - the cars looked barely like they were going at even road legal speeds on track and changing gear at very low rpms. I think I’d find that more frustrating than fun!

yrah, shit experiences are very shit.. I got £500 from work earlier in the year, the mrs used half for a spa day and the rest I'll use for something like drifting.

Got one out, and seeing as I'm not perma-skint any more I thought I might try something more premium than whatever I got last time that I can't remember, but was probably a halfords cheapy.

Autoexpress suggests the Philips RacingVision GT200, Halfords Advanced 200%, or Osram Nightbreaker 200s after having, you know, actually tested them in a semi-objective fashion; anyone tried any of 'em?

I've tried Nightbreakers and they certainly are bright. Chief annoyance is that they don't last very long.
