It's weird that they made them in Fahrenheit in the first place, being a European manufacturer. Doing it in °C would have been easier and then just be Italian and NGAF if anyone wanted it in °F.

No such thing as a Boggo 928 when the only car more expensive in the normal line up was a Turbo! Love the picture of your son - just a few decades ago...



Interestingly I watched Risky Business recently on the flight back from Hong Kong. Can't believe I've never seen it and it has made me want a 928 badly!! Needs to be an S2 manual in Chiffon for me though which is basically hens teeth. Auto to manual conversions must be pretty easy to do these days though...

Either that's not an S or he's got the year wrong. The S didn't come out until 1980. It has got the spoiler of an S but some people added them to the OB (original body) versions. It's probably going to need a couple of grand in recommissioning work given it's not run properly for so long. Timing belt less of an issue on the early ones as the 4.5 and early 4.7 engines are non-interference.

Probably the one to have if you want the original body as it has S4 suspension and engine revisions but in an S2 body. £45k though - crickey - plus Guards Red is certainly not the colour for a 928 IMO.

Oh, I had someone aggressively offer to buy my car last week, the state it's in now, for three and a half grand...in two months when they've saved up for it.

They were a bit annoying about it.

I guess the E46 330ci is en vogue at the moment. This is on top of all the other offers I get, either directly or via my neighbour when he's out working on his cars, and people think my car belongs to him as it's parked very close.

It's kinda tempting to just leave the car as is and (if he's genuine) make £500 on the car over what I bought it for (yes, running costs etc but who counts those?) but on the other hand, I could, you know, tidy it up and sell it for a not unreasonable amount more, and that gets me ever closer to that 'cleanish 335i' budget.

Oh well, I'm in no rush to do anything.

Instead of having a snowflake or "AC" button that lights up when it's on like everyone else in the world, here you have a button that lights up STOP when it's off.

Oh, and having put it all back together one of the backlights has conked out. New bulbs ordered.

Well my new flat data cable and right angle adapter have allowed Android Auto to work, which has also stopped me from skipping tracks when indicating or going round a corner, which is nice.

Been a couple of trips now of a decent length and easily averaging over 45mpg when travelling with the pace of the traffic so pretty impressed by that for a big lump of a car with a petrol engine in it, the gearing is sooooo long which probably helps.

The parking sensors are as accurate as all other VAGs I have had - i.e. not very.

Door reassembled with silver handle. I think it looks OKish but I would prefer it in black. I’ll have a rummage in the garage and see what I’ve got.

Having put that side back together I took a quick look at the passenger side. The large silver trim is held on with six long M5 bolts. One - the one at the top - is 10mm longer than the others. While working on the drivers side I’d already noticed it had two long bolts. It appears that someone - possibly an owner, possibly an “expert” "specialist" - had both panels off at the same time and got the bolts mixed up. The upper bolt on the passenger side was too short to engage and had been wrapped in masking tape so that it would sit in place and look as though it’s doing something The inner window seal hasn’t been fitted properly either and tends to pop out when you put the window up. Easy fixes which is good but makes it even more of a that a few extra seconds weren't taken doing it right in the first place.

The Vitara passed its first MOT without any problems although there was a bit of confusion about if it was a hybrid or not as the emissions aren't tested on hybrids. Suzuki call it a mild hybrid as the motor just assists the engine rather than allowing it to run on electric power alone.

I also ordered a set of all season tyres for it from Black Circles who I have used many times before without any problems. Not this time though as they hadn't arrived at the garage for the arranged date. Very difficult to contact Black Circles with replies just being automated emails, the tyres will be here a week after they were supposed to arrive apparently.

I'd agree - the handle isn't a particularly elegant shape in the context of the door which is all curves, so having it in black highlights that less.

In other news - I decided it was high time I had a code reader for the 330i. Previously I've borrowed by bil's Creator C310 which helped when I had issues with coils. Decided that as it wasn't too pricey I'd get teh C502 instead. Hopefully will get chance to have a play with it at the weekend and see what's what. Hopefully won't find any codes...

Or could you get them black anodised? Should be fairly durable.

Im actually quite enjoying the process of fixing previous bodges / improving the x5.

It’s kind of annoying but also satisfying being able to make improvements and fix things properly without having to spend lots of money.
