Further proof that storage heating fuuuucking suuuuucks

Uk homes are pretty good at evening out moderate temperature swings, but not for anything sustained.

The bricks on the back wall of our house still felt like a radiator at 6:30 am this morning.

Everyone posts about keeping curtains and blinds closed, but that only works up to the point the house starts turning into an oven

Yeah, that simply doesn't work with my place. I've got some big south facing windows at the front of my flat, and with the windows, blinds and curtains closed it results in a higher indoor temperature by the time the outside temp starts to drop and seems to trap the air moreso than with the windows open.

God bless 1950s ex council houses, with a single AC unit running in the open plan downstairs, it's 24.5 degrees pretty much all day and starts to drop after 10 ish.

Waited until this evening to go in the workshop to do my various tasks, 34 degrees, but midday it was at 47.
It’s annoying they don’t sell those third world/US style AC window units here and the portable ones that put out decent BTUs cost more than a proper split system. The pre charged split systems look easy to install and I may go down that route and just identify as a furry, sorry F registered fitter for a few hours.

I’m sure I had seen split systems with dry break connectors, but all the split ones I can see at the moment say they need professional installation.

Our bedroom is currently showing 28° it’s felt hot and muggy today but nowhere near as absurd as yesterday afternoon.

It’s just environmental handwringing in case a bit of gas escapes but it’s fine with new cars having totally exposed condensers that get a hole in them every few thousand miles and then going to a backstreet garage to keep regassing them every 6 months…

Anyway I just looked again and it appears they now use an environmentally friendly gas now which bypasses the need to have a professional

As you say I imagine it’s best to wait till Black Friday and get a good deal!

I’ve had an email and a text message from Severn Trent Water today asking me to be careful with how much water I use and yet the bowling club I can see from our back garden have water sprinklers running for hours every day

F gas qualified engineer. That uses r290, a pure refrigerant grade version of a gas which also goes by a more familiar name you may have heard of



F gas doesn’t quite cover that any more. You also need safe handling of hydrocarbons qualification too

So be careful if you do have a go because you’re playing with boom boom stuff, and you’re ramming it up to 20 bar in the high pressure side and the “low” pressure side is still around 4

So it’s like a BBQ then. Well I’ll probably have a go later this year, might make it on the news if something really bad happens

It’s only 27° in my bedroom this morning, feels positively chilly, thank god

By setting up a fan to blow out of the window and attempt to create a through draft I got ours down to 27.5 by 1am. Much more pleasant 24.5 this morning!

Went down southbank last night as we were down that there London. Despite being hounded by a Quad Bike gang of some sort when we drove in it was a lovely evening.

Had a drink by the National Theatre, had some food, went for a walk and everyone was being pleasant, some cool music about, great weather and left around 02:00.

Londoners seem to be doing it well.

The south bank vibes on a hot summer day are amazing

Doing some tidying up in the greenhouse - everything in the south facing window side has been burnt to a crisp. Noticed the sewer pipe I use has been charred as has the wooden frame that supports it

That’s a bit worrying!

The heat has killed some of the packs in the X5s display screen - it did the same a few years ago and eventually fixed themselves. Although it’s probably one of the few remaining that still had a functioning original screen. You can get aftermarket replacements and diy repair them if it comes to it.

A Candy Kitten air freshener in the compact got soft enough to split through the mounting hole and fall off.

They’re the only casualties I’ve found so far

The EV charger wasn’t working yesterday, it was flashing a red thermal cutout warning. Useless in extreme heat and cold it seems like

But… but… but… I do t understand. I thought London was now a war zone with gangs of violent feral criminals, with crime, robbing and violence and the Police doing nothing because they’ve “lost the city”

I hear that Shania Law was instigated, but it didn't impress anyone much.
