Hmm, kind of ? It’s the earlier supercharged version and I’ve never had a supercharged car. But fifteen owners and no key. And an MOT that ran out nearly a year ago. And Mitcham.

Actually, scratch that, it had a fairly spectacular MOT fail last month with a lot of rust

It is quite cool but definitely another burning pile of cash/time.

I have an odd urge for a 4x4 camper van. I think those use the same mechanicals as the Hilux ? So pretty bombproof there but fixing rust can be a never-ending journey.

TVR doesn't like E10 well cheap supermarket E10. Figured as we were doing a 350 mile round trip on mostly motorways to Norfolk I'd fill up with E10 as I'd burn it all and it was easy going.
For the first half a tank it was fine but as it got under 1/2 a tank it started playing up with a distinct cough/jolt every now and again I ran it pretty low on the way home and filled up with BP ultimate at a services and it was fine again. I think I'll try carrying a bottle of octane boost for emergencies in case it's the lower rating of the ethanol that did it, although it's odd it didn't happen for the first half tank.
Also I found that the washers weren't working too. The motor is running so I assume I have to chase a broken pipe (they are getting old and brittle) to find the issue. I'll replace it with silicone again.

The pickup in the washer fluid tank often gets clogged with slime, check that out first. If it's a broken pipe you should see fluid dripping out under the car.

I've been looking at what sort of prices E9x 335i are at.

Kinda cheap for a twin turbo (or twin scroll turbo on N55) three litre six pot that can easily be tuned to ~400bhp, before they start becoming less affordable due to tax rates etc.

Maybe next year....

Yep, I was going in for the tank first as it's easy to get to via the grill, so hopefully like you say a good clean and it will be sorted.

Only thing with the pipes is some are in a cavity about the dash so can be an utter twat to access. I did replace both the ones that need to flex in the summer when one broke.

I bet the F30 shape 335i goes lower - the E90 versions were relatively rare when new and tend to be advertised optimistically already.

I'm just thinking I should blag a 300-400bhp car (or capable with mild tweaks) while it's still reasonably economical to do so - tax rates on bigger, faster cars are going up rapidly and I can see it being unjustifiable to pay £4k for a car and >£1k a year tax (or whatever it goes to in a few years time - probably even higher) on cars like that.

Anything with a decent size engine and wanting reasonable tax is presumably going to have to be a 55 reg or older where the max is £370 or whatever instead of the post 06 reg £690 ish

I think most E9x 335i models fall under 225g/km CO2 so wouldn't be in the higher bracket. Quite a few coupes and convertibles on Auto Trader from sub-£5k and don't even look like total sheds. IIRC they do like to break things like the high pressure fuel pump regularly though.

Nice cars; I test drove a 2008 335i Coupe in 2010 and I liked the way it drove. Quite mature, so buying it for the power and performance is probably a bit pointless.
