203k ! But really super condition. Engine was replaced with a 65k mile unit just before I bought it in May. Extremely cheap to run: £20 VED and 70+mpg on the motorway.

I bought it back in May because I was starting a new job that was going to mean commuting but it turned out they don't really care so I have been WFH the whole time and have been to the office precisely once ! I was hankering for a Cooper S anyway, so I bought one last week and now the Dooper needs to go.

Oh, and the AC doesn't work, classic "might need a recharge". I've not bothered looking for the leak.

I quickly popped new air & pollen filters in the MINI this morning. It’s one of my favourite jobs, not just because it’s so easy, but because it gives me the opportunity to feel smugly superior about how awful other people are. Both filters filthy, of course, and both date marked Feb 2016. I guess that gives me a clue about when it was last serviced…

Speaking of which - I did mine this week as well. Not sure when the air filter was last done

That reminds me, I can actually afford decent cabin air filters now.

And so I probably should get all the leaves and dross out of the filter bins too didn't seem worth it when I was skint.

Beetle had been misfiring for a little while, particularly when cold. Our great local garage quickly tracked it down to cylinder one, and fixed it with new leads and plugs. Driving perfect again. Bloody brilliant car, that.

650i, not much to report. MOT has just expired so I'll get that done. It's still for sale. Had a few enquiries but nothing worth getting excited about. I have a feeling that when it does go, someone's going to get a hell of a lot of car for not a great deal of money...

As I was on the B4208 heading towards Staunton in rush hour, I think the speedo might be a touch knackered. The needle was pointing at 80mph when I wasn't moving I suspect that the mechanism needs a bit of a clean and regrease.

As noted previously, while investigating stereo / electrical gremlins I noticed that the battery was a bit manly looking and the GM logo pointed to it not really being correct. It also didn’t fill the battery tray very well.

Then on Thursday, having listened to the radio and had an interior light on for about an hour during my shift, it refused to start. Which was annoying.

Thankfully it doesn’t use anything fancy, just a pretty big chunky conventional lead acid battery.

Fitting is not a 5 minute job either…

A bit annoying, but I tend to assume I’m going to have to replace a battery and couple of tyres on anything I buy as you never really know the history and I want them to just work when I want to use them. Not like it was something I could easily check and use as a bargaining point when viewing either.

I got halfway through that before I realised you were talking about the X5, not the Compact
