I have always had these on the wish list, even more so on those wheels. I was picked up in one by a few years ago which made me want one even more, the ride was up there with an S class. The chauffeur put me off when he said they have a fleet of them and the gearboxes are made of cheese, rarely getting past 60,000 miles.

Gearboxes aren't a common failure point on X351 so I'm not sure where he's got that from.

It's the same ZF 8 speed that's in almost everything.

Yep, that was nice to watch, and well executed with the outriders and the other bikes and cars blocking all the roads off. I was expecting to see some crashes though, on the opposite carriageway, with all the cars in the outside lane stopping to watch.

Snap. In Leeds. It was very nice.

What @16vCento said in relation to the ZF 8sp though - that comment makes no sense.

In this case, its not something I would do myself or condone, but if you look at it another way you have 2 big fat lads assaulting some skinny little kid for opening his mouth.
More generally, I'd agree. Not appropriate imo and over the top.

As for the mouthy journo - the old adage of act like a twat, get treated like a twat holds.
I'd probably tend to agree. Dragged away and given a bollocking yes, but arrested and charged (I hadn't heard that only seen footage of the original incident) OTT.

That's the difference between civil people and many of these types of people. Most of us are aware when things are appropriate and when they are not.

Edit, slightly different to X350 ones, look awful on non-hearse XJs!

Nah I like them on that as well!

I took his word for it, didn't realise its the same box. Assuming that they don't pull the ZF apart and make it worse, then its just the usual jlr electrical and qc gremlins to worry about.

Thing is, one of the protesters who was arrested had a placard which read "Fuck Charles, Not my King" written in large letters.

If he had just written "Not my King" then I'm sure he'd have been left alone. Adding "Fuck Charles" to in and displaying it in a public place, where there are Kids around, probably pushed it into the Public Disorder space and resulted in his arrest.

I gather he was formally "de-arrested" later so no record of it at all etc for him.

I've seen a suggestion elsewhere that those alloys were designed for a Daimler version of the X351 XJ which did not end up being produced. So they were only ever an option and clearly a rare one. Not surprising that they suit the hearse so well.

I very much hope that people discuss the design of alloys on the hearse I make my final journey in!

I've seen worse things on protest signs. The quoted comment was in relation to someone saying it could've been worse, they could've been charged with treason.

The longer all this goes on the more insane people seem to be getting about what is and isn't acceptable. Center Parcs were going to throw people out for the day on Monday

exactly, we should all be free to shout insults at a funeral procession, no matter who's it is. It's what our grandfathers fought for.
This isn't the same as aunty pat down the local crem followed by a few sandwiches in her local. Its a huge political state affair and not about the individual, it's about the monarchy. If she got the same funeral as everyone else, I'd agree with you.
I guess my sarcasm was a little too masked...

I'd expect anyone shouting insults at anyones funeral procession to be charged with the same. Auntie Pats or Auntie Liz's.

There is no offence of shouting at a funeral procession, though.

It's simple good decorum isn't it. Time and place for everything.

Not necessarily disputing that, it's more the use of police to enforce decorum that seems a bit off.

Absolutely. But it's not a criminal offence.

I'd expect you of all people to realise that being offensive wasn't criminal

Stand back - I'm going to argue Law... with a Lawyer...

The BBC quoted the following:

Other laws allow the police to curtail freedoms when it would be necessary and proportionate to do so - particularly where it would be necessary to protect national security and public safety or prevent disorder or crime.

You could argue that in light of the fact that the vast majority of those present are supporting of the royals, inflammatory protests are likely to endanger public safety due to the possible response.

They also state the following from the Public Order act

Section 5 of this gives police in England and Wales the power to arrest someone whose behaviour may cause harassment, alarm or distress. Protesters may be fined if charged with this offence.

I would suggest carrying placards stating "Fuck Charles" or similar is likely to cause distress to the vast majority of those who are there to Mourn.

Whats the solution? Let people ruin things for the majority because its their right to do so?

While funny it doesnt address the question.

I would say for their own safety the coppers moving them was a good thing.
