I still have a hankering for a Submariner date. I know, I know... I can't even explain it, let alone rationalise it, it's just always been a watch I've loved the look of. No way am I even considering one, but I did notice a couple like below where people are selling 2022 watches on collectingwatchesnotcars.com.
Are people just putting them on there in the hope someone will want to pay over list price? Or they've ordered them ages ago and now have better things to spend their money on? There's a few live at the moment and it just struck me as weird as I thought these sort of watches were difficult to buy new in the first place.
Possibly a bit of both? Although I guess it is more the former than the latter. I guess (price apart) it isn't much different to pay someone to queue for you.

Possibly. It just strikes me as a lot of effort to go-to for a small profit. I'm really on work avoidance today and it looks like their retail is 10K and there's various sites selling new ones for 10-12k.

£2k-ish profit for very little work seems reasonable. If you've got the cash to cover the deposit and then pay the remainder, I guess you could make a nice sideline.
I'm on an all-day workshop and obviously fully focused.
I ain't paying that much! It was inevitable it was going to happen though.
I did an EOI on the CW website when they launched and recently got an email saying they are hoping to get info on new colour options out in the next few weeks and they hope to get one to everyone who wants one in the second half of 2023. I haven't paid a deposit yet though...
Just announced apparently. Assume you got a mail? Cielo, Viola, Nero & Rosa. I'm still very much in the "too much area for shizzle that isn't telling the time" camp, but it looks like these will sell well - which is great for the brand.

I quite like the Nero one.

I've been rather taken by the green version of the Longines Spirit 37mm of late:
I'm not hugely keen on the date at 3 o'clock though - and is it me, or does the crown look like it's properly screwed in? (they are, they just look like they're not)
There's an updated version where they've moved the date to 6, which looks better IMO, however the new one doesn't appear to be available in green:

I like the face, mostly, but plenty of things annoy me about that watch:
- The case looks very simplistic and almost unfinished.
- The date window at 3 doesn't bother me; the fact that it's too far into the face does.
- Red tip on the seconds hand would be nice, but clashes with the green face.
- The crown does indeed look like it's not in properly.
I'd have my favourite Seiko Alpinist over that every time. Though it would be nice if you could get a more accurate movement...

The lugs on the new Longines are nicer than on the old too...
The Alpinist is a classic @Jobbo and I know it's one of your favourites
At £650 though, I don't think it's good value (personally)
I'm never quite sure why Seikos are so thick either. They always seem to be very chunky.
Out of curiosity, what's the lume like on the Alpinist?

I thought there wasn't a lot of lume on an Alpinist but - excuse the terrible photo - I've just put my hand in a cupboard and taken a pic:
That doesn't sell it at all so here it is normally:
I haven't tried the single crown versions but I think they have printed numerals which loses part of the Alpinist's appeal for me. The shape of the lugs and case finishing is really nice though, and while it's not a slim jim, it's not as fat as a Submariner. This version was £800, mind you; but if you like the standard green I'm sure you can find that for sub-£650.

Hmm, maybe they are £650 now for the green one. I've found a 10% off for signing up to a newsletter deal, so sub-£600. You do have to like the second crown, though - if you don't, you won't get used to it being there.

I still quite fancy the Prospex SRPD25K1, but I can't get past the cyclops.

It's aligned with north. Depending on which way I'm facing, anyway...
Yeah, if that bothers you don't get one

I used to be into the Alpinist but have kind of gone off it in recent years - feels bad saying that though as it's a watch I still want to love. Looks very ungainly to me in photos, but I suspect it would look better in reality (haven't seen one in person yet). I think I prefer the non-compass version actually, although it doesn't really seem like an Alpinist. Probably a more natural comparison for the Longines.
I think I'd go with a nice boring Hamilton Khaki in that range though.
Dear God - I've just checked the price of the Longines... That's a lot more than I was expecting!! You can get a Hamilton and the Seiko

what's all that crap all over the face? Looks like they've stuck what ever broken bits from the factory floor on it.

It's the additional mechanism that makes it so unusual. (This feature doesn't appeal to me personally, but it's causing some excitement amongst watch lovers as it clearly offers something different).
