I was watching her semi, and they listed the PBs of each athlete before the start. Her PB was whole seconds better than anyone else in the semi! Didn't realise. First semi winning time was also seconds off her PB.

I think she had the easier semi-final; however, she's undoubtedly incredibly fast, and she got silver at Tokyo, so I really hope she gets the gold this time around.

She did look very comfortable in the semi-final.

BBC coverage is doing my head in a bit. They've been sat in the studio chatting all morning so far, and then cutting back to catch up on some of the athletics that has been going on whilst they've been chatting. Why not just stay at the stadium and let us see everything that's going on, rather than showing us the highlights of what the British have done?

I know they were screwed by the IOC with them giving everything to Discovery, and believe that the BBC can't show more than 2 sports at once, but even so it's bloody annoying when you miss so much of what's going on in track and field.

we bought discovery for the month - it was only about £4.

but yes, i MASSIVELY object to putting anything like the olympics (full coverage) on anything other than a “free” channel.

Agreed - we got Discovery Plus for free and the coverage (as in showing all sports) is a lot better (but not complete - they didn't start the Golf until about 1/3 of the competitors had started for example)

The commentary is very mixed too...

Look at their feet, there's some epic hopping going on.
If the runners had finished minutes apart and someone made a composite of them crossing the line it wouldn't be as close as that.

Genuinely feel like he is a once in a lifetime phenomenon.

Sounds like we got a pretty good free to air TV deal in Aus in comparison.

Commercial broadcast network 9 bought the rights for a number of years.

They're broadcasting the usual commentators in a studio + highlights + selected sports with plenty of ads.

But their online (login but no fee) service has been very good. A lot of sports coverage with sometimes a dozen free running streams often without interrupting them for hours. Have watched bouldering, hammer throw and fencing and other random stuff. Sometimes there's no commentary at all which can get confusing but is actually quite relaxing to watch.

On the Mine it’s just Aussie Rules Football, the Olympics isn’t getting a look in.

We fly into Parabadoo and it’s a 2 hour drive from there.

1.5 days drive from Perth I think it is, drives here are a bit more involved haha.

I can imagine, but I absolutely loved driving in central Australia last month on holiday. So relaxing, a feeling that evaporated within ten minutes of getting back to Melbourne's stupid roads and limits.

Shamefully I've lived less than half an hour's drive from Houston's BBQ for the last two and a half years but have yet to eat there.

For the ancient ones of the Snitz days, Fatboyfat is still in Melbourne and we're great mates. He at least still has a decent car too, Fiesta ST.

Oooh ! I've been there ! We hired a camper van from Perth & drove up to Monkey Mia. Pretty boring driving for the most part but a great experience. Would do it again.
