Water ingress into the CJB is not as clear cut as it sounds.

The water has got in there from the Screen Wash Pump, it tracks down the wiring from it into the CJB over time.

If I were you, I'd take it to a specialist, tell them what's happened, get them to replace the screen wash pump, fit anti water bindings to the loom, clean up the CJB and leave it unplugged a couple of days to make sure all the fluid has gone out of it.

Bushes are replaceable separately to the arms, so don't pay for arms,

Wobble on braking could be a combination or arm bushes and brakes, but, there's a bulletin to get the to do a proper wheel force balance, which normally cures it.

Take it somewhere decent for the wheels balancing, if there's no knocks from the suspension, leave it, as they tell you when they're fucked by knocking their tits off.

I've just googled "XF electrical box water ingress" and it seems to be a pretty common issue on the pre-facelift cars. Therefore it's probably something that Jag independents will be well aware of.

So got some MP4S fitted to the front of the boxster. Took it out for a run round derbyshire to bed them in. Initial thoughts;

Soft, not as direct as the hard falling apart supersports, better ride. Overall in 35 miles I can't say I'm impressed.

Anyone else think the same about them? Or am I just being a fanny and need to pump them up more

Break-in? Few hundred miles first.

My thinking is
Electrics with them (I just worry an indie will struggle)
Brakes at an indie
Leave suspension

Jag XF diesel. 130000 miles so the suspension being knackered is not a surprise

Happy to share inspection video over DM.

Interesting. Will discuss with them tomorrow.

I took it to a main dealer because the indie said the electrical gremlins were beyond them so I thought I would bring it all to them…

Another £400 for a replacement (having replaced it once before and done the OS 12 or so months ago) and Eurocarparts don't have any in stock. Seems they only last around 3 or 4 years before cracking which is ridiculous. :?
I forgot to reply to this. Is it actually broken, or is the water getting in through the join between body & lens ? On the Cayenne both rears & one front were collecting water and after thoroughly drying them out I trickled superglue around the join. Superglue is quite thin (and you can buy different viscosities if you really want) and works its way right into any voids.

Since then - touch wood - and through some fairly heavy rain - no more water in the lights.

But then, I'm not familiar with 997 lights. If there's electronics in there and the water has f**ked them up, we are very much after the horse has bolted now !

You will need a Jag specialist for the CJB as it will need reprogramming to the vehicle, give Tasker and Lacy a bell if your coming back up this way, they seem to be well regarded.

They crack along the join between the red and white plastic on the actual lens. No idea who thought it would be a good idea to join together two pieces of plastic in the middle of a light :?

They do tend to work on and off and don't short out or anything of that nature but I'm not sure you'd ever be able to repair it where it would not spring a leak again. Anyway, the actual plastic looks badly aged so aesthetically is due a replacement rather than trying to save it.

Interestingly I took it off to drain the water last weekend (a full cupful or more!) and it has a 2009 date code on it so I must have replaced with a second hand unit last time. The replacement offside unit was brand new last year so hopefully that lasts longer!

I guess this is why I took it to a main dealer rather than an indie. Fingers crossed they don’t mess it up.

I’m fairness, I watched the video and they do look shagged.
Although welcome to send on for second opinion.

The reason I asked them to look into this was a wobble under braking so I’m reasonably sure warped / worn brakes are the culprit.

Mine felt fuzzier than the Supersports when I changed. But the old tyres were down to about 2mm, so 6mm less tread block to flex. And they needed a good couple of hundred miles to remove all the mould release compound and let them wear to the camber setting to provide a flatter surface to the road. On my last trip up North - trying to hang on to a 600LT and a 430Cup, they felt mighty.

More likely pad deposits on the disks than a warp. Try several very hard Emergancy stops on a quiet road

Oh, I should add that I am just as annoyed as you all about the ridiculous pricing. There is even a quote for £37.96 to replace a number plate lamp.

Not in any part of the country with electricity & functional sanitation ! My Porsche Indy Tuna is £75+VAT. Main dealers must be getting close to £200.
I don't know anywhere that cheap (aside from some 1 or 2 man under-the-arches type place).
Strasse are £70+ VAT which I'm told is half what Leeds OPC charge - I've heard tales of some OPC's Darn Sarth that are £180+VAT.

Quite a few main dealers in America are $350 or upwards an hour.

Labour rates are getting daft, but when manufacturers are making them spend millions on getting the dealership to their required spec, the money has to come from somewhere!

Garage round the corner from me are £38/hour and there isn't much they can't do. I see plenty of classic cars inc Porches there and they did a good job on my XJ8.
