The tailgate on the 928 hasn't been staying up reliably, so I managed to source a pair of gas struts from the US for a very reasonable £24 and I shall be fitting these at the weekend. I'll also be sorting out why the tailgate release isn't working. Neither the driver's side or passenger's side switches do anything so I think it's probably just a blown fuse.

I've not actually measured but it's not had much use the past couple of weeks either as I've not had the opportunity. Since its service it's definitely running leaner and I'm probably getting around 12-15mpg. I'll probably take it out for a blat for an hour or so this weekend if I get the chance.

I was thinking that - originally I thought it was their spray that fucked the 3m vinyl however it was just the bonnet so we deduced it was the extra heat from my chipped turbo.

The bonnet scoop stickers on GP2s fail regularly due to the heat from the turbo.

3???!!! That's some cheap-ass vinyl they're using. I'm guessing not original MINI stripes? Good quality vinyl should last 5 - 7 years minimum. Digital print up to 10. If you look after a wrap like paint, no reason it shouldn't last 10 year plus too. Vinyl is plastic, so if you let it dry out by using harsh chemical to wash it, it will fail earlier, just like plastic bumpers and trim.

As above - it melted on the bonnet, the roof and rear were absolutely fine. A problem not limited to my car hence these are available.

Very true, I only paid them 50 quid tho so didn't expect the whole car machine polished.

You need to find of those magical mate of a mate mates rate detailers who will do a 3 stage polish and ceramic coat for £50

The slow puncture on the Jag got faster. Couldn't see anything on the tyre but there was an audible hiss when I parked up last night, so I cancelled my appointment for next week at Kwick Fit and got it done at Phillip's tyres instead: nail in the tyre, repaired for £17 in ten minutes.

What was slightly stranger was: after a short (five min? drive) over to a friend's house, when I parked up and locked the car, the alarm started going off and only eventually responded to a press of the key to disarm it after 3 minutes or so. The in car menu said the driver's door had set it off. What was really strange was the trip computer had reset. I don't know if this is a battery issue, some infamous Jag electrical gremlin or something else. First time it has happened...

Might be microswitch in door latch failing, JLR Door latches are not the most robust unfortunately.

At least they're cheap!

Yeah, I get that - it's the failing to respond to the key fob to switch off that concerned me...

A couple of months ago I managed to win a voucher for £750 from coilovers.co.uk so I put that towards a set of MeisterR GT1’s. I debated stretching my budget even further to a set of ohlins but after doing a bit of research I was keen to try these.

They arrived a couple of days ago so I decided to fit them on the weekend. I’m planning a full suspension refresh over the winter so considered leaving them in the box until then but I couldn’t resist.



So yesterday I fitted them, then corner weighted and geo’d the car. I was able to get the rear toe bolts freed off so I could wind most of the toe off the rear too thankfully, when I bought the car 6 months ago the rear had way too much toe in and it very obviously spoiled the balance compared to my last s2000.

They appeared to come with the ride heights preset so I didn’t mess until I got the wheels on and lowered it onto the scales. They were set with the same ride height each end so I lowered the front 10mm and did a quick corner weight, it’s all coming apart again over the winter for a full suspension refresh so I didn’t go to town, it’s close enough.








First impressions are really excellent, in fact probably the best praise I can give them is they feel almost no different to the oem setup I just removed despite being stiffer. The ride is at least as good if not better and they ride the small bumps and imperfections very well. A quick blast round my favourite island confirmed the balance I wanted is back too

i even managed to sneak a quick wash in today in between rain showers. It looks much better lowered

Got the struts replaced in about 10 minutes. Started looking at the hatch release issue but none of the fuse ratings matched the diagram I had, so I wasn't entirely sure which fuse was which and I was pushed for time so decided to leave it for another day.

Cheapo car wash geezers sprayed chemicals on the mini and got rid of the stuff left on all for 6 quid. (Gave him a tip tho).

Swift is back at the dealer I bought it from to have the pulling to the left investigated. Take your hands off the wheel for 5s on the motorway and you'll be fully in the lane to the left. Not ideal. Today I have a loaner Swift (SZ3, non-Sport) that is a mild hybrid. Apart from the funky display it's imperceptible. It's reasonable enough transport but doesn't get me excited.

It will stay on the drive until I take it back in the morning to collect mine back, with either something adjusted, fixed, replaced or some new parts on back order that will then need to wait until after lockdown to be fitted.

Update: the tracking was marginally out but not enough to fix the issue, so they are continuing to investigate up to tomorrow lunchtime which is the latest I can go collect the car. Might need to be booked in for more investigation work in December. Good, at least, that they've recognised the issue is present.

I was considering buying a spare Compact. Seller said “has some rust on the sills”.
