I think we just call them little people these days.

yep, you have to search for “little people donkey BDSM” now, using the m word would be degrading.

I know people who have struggled to get planning permission for extensions yet the planning offices approved these monstrosities

I was looking at a whole thread of these yesterday
They are terrible, white/grey exterior, grey interior. Generally have cars with the same colour scheme too.
Allergic to colour.

Strange mix of "updates" which generally look rubbish, and what appear to be complete "destruction & rebuild"?

I quite like #6 (which looks like a render as opposed to reality).

The white/grey trend is the crime against architecture of this generation. Absolutely horrific. I can see how people think it looks sleek and minimal, but it’s not, it’s just ugly. And even worse when that white paint is a few years old and the whole thing simply starts to look tired, drab and rundown. Yes, it’s a common trend in my area

Also, what’s the deal with the thick external foam insulation everyone is getting installed? I like the idea of insulation, but having a thick layer of plastic stuck on the outside of brickwork feels like a massive ventilation and damp problem waiting to happen :?

Also front doors. Anyone who installs anything other than a traditional style front door is certifiably mental. The only exception are bespoke, architect designed doors. Otherwise I’ve never seen a ‘contemporary’ off-the-shelf front door design which looks good.

100% everything that Gavster has just said. In my benevolent dictatorship your house would be repossessed for these crimes and donated to someone that's willing to abide by my aesthetic rules.

The planning aspect confuses me. See this a lot in Kent. Canterbury shitty council won’t let you put up a double garage as it’s out of character but they will let you demolish a nice house and build an imposing white Ikea box.

Notice it a lot when you leave the SE of England. All the villages and small towns have their own distinct building style using local materials. Kent has no cohesive design apart from the heart of the very old villages…

Here’s something else, a bit special, to wash the taste of those Ikea Boxes in Kent from your mind…

Absolutely stunning…

It’s nice and I like the interior but not $6.3M nice. I realise it’s in the LA hills so that’s what you’re paying for mainly. Also looks to me like an old timber construction so I wonder how bad the insurance will be on that!

i kind of thought that at first, but the way it revealed all the different settings (and the epic pool) was great - and no white/grey glossy shit - i’d want it exactly as is.

The vast majority of US homes are timber framed so I wouldn’t think that would be a problem…
