Race report
Race report
First race of the year last weekend.
Had been chasing power issues all week, diagnosed to drive by wire throttle related, changing out the throttle which made zero difference.
Ended up reviewing all the car earths and adding 2 news ones, one to the other side of the chassis and another direct off the TB to the head.
Low hopes for qualifying and it was chaotic with nearly 30 cars out, a huge variation of speeds- 20 secs a lap, 50-70 second laps so the management of mobile chicanes was amusing.
A car expiring and spreading oil over half the track meant a split session, I went out quick and stuck in a decent 54 second lap, traffic was so bad I just pulled in and let the session run.
Ended up getting pipped in class but wasnโt bothered as my car starts way better than the supercopa so always jump multiple places at the beginning.
So race 1.
Got the jump at the start- my class competition had turbo issues so it was a case of get away from the middle of the pack and try to hang onto the really quick stuff ahead.
I ended up lapping the slower stuff 3 times, and I tell you what 18 minutes in these cars is bloody hard work
Broke my PB and set a class record with a very handy 53.7 which would also have take the previous class record outright(new series this year)
I had a great time chasing the Tuscan in front, driven but a sprint and hillclimb champion- heโs hustled a judd single seater Round Knockhill in 44 seconds
I found out afterwards it has about 550bhp and the pedigree of the driver so not too bothered!!
I also lapped everyone up to 7th place which was awesome!!
Race standings
Race 2, great start, jumped into third and one thing i have learned is that races are won and lost on the first lap.. go hard or go home indeed, I had caught an R400 coming into Clarkeโs and he pulled left-
I thought he was going defensive and went deep to get a really good drive out to drive round the outside but turns out he had power issues and went right as well to get out of the way.
Contact and horrific vibrations- the race had been red flagged for a startling accident after someone stalled, we formed back up
And I got anther great start but the vibrations were so bad I pulled off as had splitter and clam damage..
Great but frustrating weekend, was only revving to 7k to avoid the misfire issues but the cars properly quick now, and I am chasing the cars in the class above.
Roll on the next one
Video from the radical of the race 2 incident
Trying to sort my own in car video so watch this space..
Cheers

Re: Race report
Ouch! Shame about the second race, but looks like you had fun up until that point.
Any further ideas on what is causing the misfire?

Great stuff.
That looks seriously fun. I love watching racing with different cars in it. Really good quality video from the Radical too, I guess because it's all so open so you get a good view. Amazing how that Tuscan pulls away from the Radical at higher speeds.
Be good if you can get a video going. Anything serious from the contact?

Re: Race report
The car that won the races outright was one of these with the BMW body- spaceframe nismo engined ground up race car.
So to be as close with a sick car I will take

Re: Race report
Good stuff. Can you explain the class structure again? How do you end up same class as the Minis running 6s a lap slower?
Re: Race report
Oof... Why do they bother putting a BMW body on it?!Foz wrote: โTue Aug 04, 2020 2:41 pm The car that won the races outright was one of these with the BMW body- spaceframe nismo engined ground up race car.

Itโs a control chassis and engine, the various bodies are to get manufacturers involvedduncs500 wrote: โTue Aug 04, 2020 2:52 pmOof... Well done on the weekend, shame about the second race. I was also wondering about the classifications so thanks for sharing. Will have to get up to one of the future events.

Re: Race report
This sounds bloody brilliant. Whatโs to stop me entering in my bog standard GT4? Other than a 4 point harness at the very least I guess?
I guess I would be in class B1 if I put slick tyres on

Re: Race report
All the safety stuff yeah, cage, belts, seats, you can enter a road car class in super lap Scotland which is timed sprints based on bhp/ton
