You know, I genuinely can't remember the last time I actively engaged on a single-make forum. I'll dip in if Google finds something I'm looking for but otherwise I find it all quite unbearable.

I have on occasion but the general braying fuckwittery makes you stay away

Worst fuel economy for my commute last night: just over 30mpg on the car's computer. But that does include nearly two and a half hours sitting stationary on the M6 behind some muppet who had managed to overturn his Ssangyong Rexton in a single vehicle accident on a straight, quiet, 4-lane motorway.

Google Maps updated the traffic as quickly as it built up, I was pleased to see. There's not much you can do to avoid an accident which happens only a few hundred yards ahead of you. Still, in the last 8000 miles of commuting I've only been delayed twice, half an hour by a dog on the elevated section of the M5 and now this. So 3 hours lost over nearly 4 months. A lot better than the cumulative delays on the train I suffered previously.

Can't lie I haven't missed driving for work, 30,000 miles a year was enough to make me move closer to my sales area before internet.

Boxster in for a recon gas tomorrow (Groupon offer thing is 38 quid @ ATS if anyone is need) mainly to see if the air con does actually work and doesnt need lots spending on it. Having the ability to remove the roof when its hot has negated any urgency to get it seen to.

Yeah, the fact that working from home has become far more of a thing at exactly the moment I took over here is a good sign that I shouldn't need to commute every day. I do like being in the office though, and I need to be here still as the boss.

Absolute Cars have been interfering with my wife's valve on the Glaucoma. They've replaced it twice. I'm hoping it's now properly tight and sealed.

I’ve got a funny electrical fault on the ML. I even changed the original battery after saying very recently I was chuffed it had lasted 14 years

It went up on ramps with a specialist this afternoon and we found a split CV boot, a small oil leak from the bell housing and the front brake hoses are showing some cracks.

I fully expect to find that at the end of the week the gearbox is on the floor and my wallet is substantially lighter.

Went to put screen wash in other half's Mokka yesterday and saw smoke coming out of the oil filler cap. It hadn't been put back on properly at the last service, a main dealer, and has been merrily spewing it's oil all over the engine since November. When I checked the level there was nothing showing on the dipstick. I'd commented last week how I thought it was sounding noisy but as usual "it's fine"...

AC stuff here too. Wifey was complaining about it not working on the MINI. I’d not got around to it as I don’t have the kit to find leaks so when I was down with the Tuna last week to MOT the Passat I decided to book it in for them to sort out.

They sucked out 200g of gas, refilled with 400g as per spec but it still didn’t work. They were then stumped and said I should go to an AC specialist. And didn’t charge me for the regas. Win.

So with it back into the electro-mechanical realm I’m happy to do it myself and I *think* I’ve narrowed it down to the compressor clutch solenoid. The new one has just arrived (£30) and I’ll fit it at the weekend. It’s a bit of a crappy job because of lack of access. If we get the AC back to full health for £30 I’ll be very chuffed indeed.

Give the clutch a tap with a hammer when the aircon is 'on' to see if it clicks into action. If so it's possible the clutch just needs adjustment.

Handily the engine didn't blow up when I was driving it for a few miles with a gaping hole (sideways pointing at least, not front facing) and nothing over it.

This came up really well. Need to raise it next and put the splitter back on once it’s down off the ramp. Have had loads of fun ripping about in it, much like the lupo having less power is so much more fun as you drive it flat out everywhere!

Fitted a transmission oil cooler to the L200 yesterday in prep for towing on Holiday.

Cooler came used from a breaker for £80 (was £600 + VAT from mitsi) but the hardlines were 'overnight parts from Japan' and arrived yesterday total cost £180.

It was a bit of bastard of a job and needed removal of the Undertray, Airbox, Grill, Intercooler + pipes, wheelarch extensions and left side of bumper to get access and room. Took about 3 hours all told.

It was an option if you had a towing kit fitted at the dealers, mine didn't and had a towing kit fitted independently. Reports are that with the additional weight the gearbox oil get hot and it will drop to 2nd at times (limp mode) to cycle the oil through the smaller cooler in the radiator, this external larger air cooler stops all that and extends gearbox life apparently so it's purely preventative as we have some big hills to climb in France.

I still want to get a remote fold unit for the mirrors, power lock for the tailgate and a tailgate assist strut for it too but I'll do those later in the year.
