Megane. Sold and driven away.
Missed that you were selling it Jon, what you replacing it with?
Hi Duncs. I wasn't really planning to sell it tbh. I had the MOT done and then it crossed my mind that with 13 months' MOT it would be a good time to sell, and it's not like I use it apart from the odd trip where either I could just use the Yeti or could take the Fabia instead.
I spotted someone looking for one on the Megane Facebook group at a price I was happy to accept, so pinged a reply. It went from there. I never advertised it as such. I didn't publish a gallery of pics anywhere, just sent him. few snaps and answered some questions. Also convinced him to take the spare pair of tyres and wheels off me for a small premium - saves me the hassle of selling them separately and provided a point of negotiation when selling. I didn't even wash it, though it was fairly clean from being washed a month or so ago. He thanked me for that as it showed the car more honestly, and then, he said, he could have the joy of washing his new toy himself.
Next, well there are a few ideas:
- Nothing, just buzz around in the Fabia when needed, which will be fine until winter when it gets ice on the inside of the screen if I need to start commuting to the station again or driving longer distances (to get to work by avoiding public transport).
- As I have fond memories of my E30 325i cabrio, a small/smallish 6+ cylinder 4wd or rwd 4 seater convertible (which I think, in my imaginary small budget means a 125i or an A4/S4). Not a 3 series as the neighbour has a 430d cabrio and clearly I can't copy him. CLK280 seems to be the only other thing coming up, though as I had the CLK55 before so maybe not one of those. Had rust issues, but was a 2003 model so maybe a later CLK would be better.
- an electric car if a stupidly low price deal comes up like the Ioniq deal I spotted for £79/month plus a small deposit).
- a Lexus LS400 as I was looking at those before I bought the A8
- something else entirely
Megane EOTR: it was surprisingly reliable. It was quick as hell. Making good use of front diff was addictive. I loved the look of it. Rear visibly was crap. Practical enough. Dan had it right having 18s on his for a softer ride. I've been in some very well sorted ones on track but now I have the Fabia with cage, buckets and harnesses I wouldn't want to track the Megane any more or spend a fortune upgrading it to be really effective on track. I'll miss the power and torque though, for sure. For now anyway.
