Quite the career and will always be Ash in Alien to me, but I guess the LOTR and Hobbit movies will be his lasting legacy for many.

RIP. He always seemed to bring something to the films and TV he was in for me. He was short, so maybe that's why I identified with him!

I can't put my finger on why but I remember him most from The Fifth Element. I'm another who didn't realise his age. R.i.p..
