A few pubs may have managed to sell off their beer. But that doesn’t mean there are deliveries ready to be made to them.

Just saying they can reopen on 22 June does not mean pubs will have anything to sell. As far as I’m aware they were gearing up for 4 July.

We have five places locally (that I know of) that are selling draught beer for takeaway thankfully, so at least I'll always be able to get hold of the good stuff.

If you bothered to read the whole post I said the price of beer will rise making it less affordable to get rinsed - the landlords have mainly been forced to take loans of 25k to keep paying rent as not all breweries have given them a holiday. https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/new ... risis.html

Ah I know about that, my missus isn’t furloughed as she had to stop working just before lockdown but things are getting tight.

Ok lets say the pubs re open with limited space which is better if youve a decent beer garden - their overheads will stay the same, they will owe 3 months rent, their income will be down 40 percent at best. Then winter comes and it get a whole load worse. Landlords will just hand the keys back and go on the streets as it really isnt worth it any longer. A small but other storm coming.

OR everyone decides this is total shit and get back to normal sharpish.

Interesting their thoughts regarding Germany:

"it looks as if the low German fatality rate is not due to their superior testing capacity, but rather to the fact that the average German is less likely to get infected and die than the average Brit. There are various possible explanations, but one that looks increasingly likely is that Germany has more immunological “dark matter” – people who are impervious to infection, perhaps because they are geographically isolated or have some kind of natural resistance. "

There was obviously loads of talk of society as a whole being different - with social distancing in place for the foreseeable future - but how practical is that given how these last few weeks have panned out? I can't see the majority adhering to it and its going to cost a long of money for places to implement and police it....

Our nearest local is owned by Greene King, and they've demanded full rent from the tenants throughout. Can't be easy for them, but they've been doing takeaway food Thu-Fri and from what I can tell they've been selling a fair bit. We've had it a few times, as much to support them as anything.

How much does beer have to go up by to stop people getting smashed on their first outings back to the pub? Even if it's a quid a pint it won't stop people

The large beer co/Breweries are generally complete scumbags, it was already ridiculously hard to actually make any money running a pub, I expect their attitudes will ensure a massive number of permanent closures following corona.

Surely it's better to have the pubs shut for a couple of months during lock down then reopen them slowly than shut for lockdown then remain closed for even longer because they're trying to find new tenant landlords after forcing out the existing ones?

That might depend on how much interest they've had in the land...

Ours has been shut for the duration. John WIllie Lees brewery. And the Hydes one int eh village also been totally shut. Not sure what their plans are, but I think the aim is to reopen. They fortunately have fairly large outside spaces at their disposal which might help massively.

Interesting isn't it? Especially the bit about their modelling suggesting that the testing might have little to do with the low infection rate. I'm surprised* Gov't aren't cosying up to the likes of Independent SAGE on the basis of some of what they're saying, rather than seeming to hold them in suspcion.

I agree that it doesn't make sense for pub owning breweries to put their tenants out of business on the whole, particularly when it comes to pubs in listed buildings that couldn't very easily be sold off for another use.

It is amazing how much they milk their tenants though, they've got the rent, then they have to pay extortionate prices for booze. I think food is the only place most country pubs make any profit. Looks like bloody hard work for scant rewards TBH, so I salute them, we should have clap for them.
