I give it one good clean once a year when I brush it, put it in the dishwasher for a hot wash and finish with a brillo pad. Other than that I give it a quick scrape & brush when I finish cooking and a quick brush when the coals have brought it up to 200°+ before putting food on.Simon wrote: Sun May 10, 2020 10:10 am How are people cleaning their grates? I know Weber make a cleaning kit but is it any good? Took ages yesterday with the scourer in the kitchen.

Re: BBQs
If the nasties can survive a blast a couple of inches above red hot coals I'm not sure a bit of washing up liquid and warm water would bother them too much
Cheers, Harry
Re: BBQs
I used to have a couple of small cast iron pot belly BBQs which I used frequently for about 10 years. Never cleaned once and no issues. As mentioned above, the extreme heat will kill off everything and with age comes patina

Re: BBQs
I bought the Weber wire brush, I use it after I've cooked whilst the BBQ is still hot and just go up and down the grill. It gets everything off easily, however not everyone is into a complete clean (as above really). The rest of the kettle gets the ash knocked out of it to stop me getting gritty food but I don't clean off the oil/fat/grease from the kettle walls.Simon wrote: Sun May 10, 2020 10:10 am How are people cleaning their grates? Outside of the kettle gets cleaned. Other accessories such as as the stainless steel stuff I'll try with oven cleaner later in the year but the rotisserie cleaned right up when it was just left to soak in hot water (plus it has a non textured surface).

This. I wash them once at the beginning of the year to get rid of the snail crap.McSwede wrote: Sun May 10, 2020 12:05 pmI've cleaned it once. Re: BBQs
I gave my GBS circular grate a wash yesterday morning because my griddle had arrived and I took it off - it is definitely easier to give it a brush while hot than to wash it in the sink. Not going to bother washing it more than once a year.
I did get an Amazon Basics version of the Weber bbq brush which works fine, I’d recommend it. The shape is much better than my old flat one.

I got the 12” long handle version linked for £7.89 when it was in stock a few days ago but they do an 18” version too.
ETA: Amazon links don’t seem to work from a phone... but it’s out of stock anyway so it’s not that helpful

Re: BBQs
Some wire wool from Dunelm does the trick on the grills and the charcoal holder grill underneath. I line the bbq with sheets of foil before starting so it’s easy to dispose of the cold ash.
Then a wipe over and a dustpan and brush to get rid of any remaining charcoal dust.

Did a Lamb Shoulder yesterday.
Test fit as it had a bit of leg attached too:

Rubbed with garlic olive oil, salt and pepper.

Started at 9 went for 40 mins or so on hot to get some colour in it.

Then wrapped in foil and dropped the temp to 250 ish. Added more fuel at this point.
Internal temp reached 203 at about 4.30, took it off, still in the foil and wrapped in a towel into the Esky to rest.

Served with Turkish red cabbage salad and pilaf rice. Banging.

The Evo forum really is a shadow of its former self. I remember when the internet was for the elite and now they seem to let any spastic on

Got my Weber Starter Chimney this afternoon so we had chicken kebabs and burgers for dinner. Dead easy, I should’ve bought one years ago. Not quite as convenient as has but much easier for casual cooking on the firepit.
