It sounds more likely to be crank sensor or throttle position sensor. The coolant thing might be something else.
Yep, K series with roller barrell throttle bodies.

Does Beany offer a call out emergency MAF cleaning service yet?
Well, only if that's what the kids are calling it these days.

Anyway, threw a more sophisticated code reader on it and it seems it was a fuel pressure related issue. The car is due a service so I'll probably do that this weekend, reset the code, then take it for a long run and see if it comes back.

If not: Fine.

If so: Dig a little deeper.

That's the way to do it 8-)

I have a similar issue with the airbag light on the Audi. Turn it off with VCDS and wait for it to come back on a few months later. Repeat, and go on living my life.

Motul RBF660.

Got ATE super blue / TYP200 in the Honda; no complain on either.

Golf -

Went in for a service last week for which i was expecting a £100 ish bill..£750 later...

Couple of weeks back i whacked the sump off a slab that rocked up when i was reversing out of my dads driveway. Checked it at the time but couldnt see any damage....WRONG. It had hit the oil level sensor and cracked it...so when it went in i got the phonecall to say it was weeping oil and they'd need to change the sensor...When he removed the sensor he then found a crack in the sump so new sump and sensor required

Additionally it needed rear pads and discs as the pads were around 70% worn and the discs were pretty much done. A job that normally id tackle myself. However due to the stupid electronic handbrake it needs to go on VAG COM to have it put in maintenance mode.

Bit annoyed with myself as neither of the jobs were beyond my abilities had i noticed the sump and the sensor could have done it a lot cheaper.

I post this every time but nobody ever believes me - if it's the same as the ones on my wife's Passat (and I reckon it probably is) you do not need VAGCOM to change the rears pads / discs / calipers. I've done it twice.

Lotus -

Heatsheild on the bulkhead had died. Ive ordered up a sheet of TechnoFibra to replace it.

However in the meantime myself and the wookie bodged it with some soldering pads aluiminum tape and a section of heat sheild material he had in the workshop. Which allowed us to get it out again on track without catching fire!

Last tracknight was a cracker. Sunny and warm so roof off. car went perfectly all night. Good session with a VX220. Very even straight line but i was monstering him round the technical sections and could brake way later than him - Which is just as well as he wasnt for lifting to let me pass. Forgot to charge the Go-Pro unfortunately so no video of the chase.

BMW -

Had for two weeks now and quite impressed with it. Lots of kit inside and the Sports seats are pretty comfortable. Not as dog slow as i was expecting from the 318d engine. Being the SE on the 17" wheels it rides really well also. Handing is pretty decent for a big SE specced bus. Certainly a lot shrper than the Volvo V60 R-Design we test drove. Have given the bodywork a good clean and machine polish so its looking pretty shiny. Few bit i want to do properly again as the machine pads i was using were passed their best. Bought a bootliner for the dogs from BMW and a touchup pen to cover the few stonechips that are on the bonnet. the electronic tailgate is great for the dogs as is the split opening window. Left the dog in the boot whilse we got ice cream the other day with the window open.

Mrs A likes it. Which as its her car is the main thing!

Handbrake off
Remove motor assembly from caliper.
Use Allen key or Torx bit (I can't remember which) to wind the piston in until it bites.
Make mental note of how many turns that was.
Wind piston right out.
Change discs / pads / calipers as necessary.
With the calipers back on, use Allen key or Torx bit to wind the piston in until it bites.
Back it off the same number of turns that you counted earlier.
Reattach motor assembly.

The car doesn't measure the absolute position of the piston, it measures how long it takes the brake to wind in, measuring the current drawn by the motor to determine when the right pressure has been applied. When you release the handbrake it unwinds the motor for a certain amount of time, not distance. So when you change the pads, as long as the clearance from the new pad to the disc is about the same as it was before, the car is happy.

I learnt this from a VW forum ages ago. The info is out there but the story of it being a dealer-only job perpetuates somehow.

Does it have the daft active headrests that force your head right forwards ? My F10 does and I'm not finding it very comfortable. I need to research whether I can switch them for normal ones.

Fair enough. I guessed you'd know better than that anyway. Mind, I read 70% worn as there still being 30% left :D

I've just been quoted that nonsense too many times by dealerships, when nothing has needed doing imminently, to the point that I never let them do the work. Renault dealerships mostly.
