It’s mostly wood we produced with a sawmill when first setting it up 2 weeks ago so it’s not very accurate as they were all calibration cuts so it’s all varying thicknesses and widths but yeah it came out better than my 2019 edition scrap pallet, 4x2 and decking version 😂

2021 will be the perfect bench.

BBQ extension built, bbq sprayed in high temp paint and table liberally coated in 10W-30

Needs to sit for a week and absorb it all before it can be used.

Tempted by this Weber Spirit Premium gas grill from Costco - it’s a couple of hundred quid cheaper than a Genesis, has a cabinet below rather than being open and a proper space for a large gas bottle (far preferable to the small patio gas):
https://www.costco.co.uk/Garden-Sheds-P ... r/p/322641

Does mean joining Costco but that’ll probably pay for itself fairly quickly. Just annoying there’s no particularly close physical Costco to me.

You'll save the money in fuel alone pretty quickly!

That looks nice but also out of stock!

Hey Mito, what's the effect of coating the table in oil?

Its fresh sawn wood which if exposed to damp will grow mould very quickly (very common with stacked firewood). Oil just prevents it getting nasty and unlike a varnish or sealant it’s still breathable so the wood can dry. I mix a bit of preservative with it for insect resistance too.

The burner itself or the diffuser? Ours (Blooma) is similar vintage and I had to get 2 new diffusers (aka “heat plates” as they rusted right through. pain to pay £40 but better than the cost of a new one.

Everything on the leftmost of the three burners sort of crumbled into rusty dust, so I think both the burner and diffuser (if there is one - it uses volcanic briquettes to diffuse the flames). To be honest fixing one thing on it would just show up the weaknesses in the rest; it's given me a lot of use over 12+ years and I've been talking about getting a new one for ages, so it really is time.

Looking at the prices in last year's sales (which I posted earlier in this thread, having missed out on them) I can only dream of a Weber Genesis II like Duncs' for £520 or so; Weber seem to have ramped up the RRP quite a bit this year so even with £100 discount being widely available they're still at the pricey RRP from 2019 currently. There will be a deal to be had, I'm sure.

I've been desperately trying not to spend unnecessary cash in recent weeks, but I finally caved and bought the smoker box, some hickory chips and a cover. The Weber smoker box doesn't have great reviews, but I still went for it... I think I'm turning into a fanboy.

So for a BBQ novice, if you want the convenience of gas (to heat up the coals) but like the taste of 'regular' BBQs where you actually cook with coals rather than gas, what are your options?

Pellet Grill.

Traeger seem to be the big boys but Weber have come to the party recently.

I'm busting to get one 😂

You can also get gas ignition charcoal BBQs like the Weber Performer Deluxe or the Summit Charcoal.

If you buy restaurant quality charcoal and a charcoal chimney it's ready to go in minutes. With a decent Weber BBQ you can shut the vents and extinguish it quite quickly meaning you don't use too much either.
