It’s going to be very difficult to recover if this is people’s first reaction to a successful testing.

To be fair, the standard 777 is built like a fucking tank. Very few incidents with them and the survival rate for the serious incidents is the best of any aircraft*. Let’s hope they haven’t fucked it up by fitting a “wing release” switch somewhere.

*541 people have died on 777s. All but 4 of those were on-board MH17 shot down over Ukraine or Malaysia 370 that’s never been found.

They have, but the “Wing securing bolts” stop it from causing any danger (they’re an optional extra of course).

Just saw that the Dutch authorities are reopening a review of a 737NG that crashed in 2009, it was blamed on pilot error, but with the current crop of 737 issues it makes you wonder if perhaps this has been going on for longer.

Agreed. With some of the findings on the MAX investigation however its hardly surprising.
