Golf mk8

Looks like the mk7 but with new headlights which are too small for the front end.




I think this is a bit like the mk6; heavily based on the previous generation underneath rather than a full new model. I always thought the pre-facelift mk7 was the best looking Golf (including the mk1 and mk3, yes) and that opinion is certainly not altered by this one.

Agreed, mk7 always just looked right. mk6 didn't, mk8 doesn't either (although that colour doesn't really help).

I hope those quad (sort of) exhausts aren't the regular thing either, nasty.

Mk5 was my favourite as that’s when I started to get a proper interest in cars. I generally don’t care about VWs though

Except the mk3. And the mk2 and mk4 were good. But other than those exceptions, and the unknown mk8, yes.

Mk4 may not have been exciting but it was a quantum leap forward in many ways. Still doesn't look old now, 22 years after it was launched.

The mk6 was a bit rubbish though, a decontented mk5.

Wasn’t the Mk5 too expensive to produce (can’t remember if it was just materials prices or the fact that the manufacturing time took too long) so the mk6 was designed to be more cut price. At least I remember reading something like that...

The only real criticism I can remember was that they stuck a GTi badge on the 2.0 8v cars when they really shouldn't have ( and seem to remember they didn't anywhere else in the world )

Did you ever drive one? Awful. Like the wheels are mad of concrete. Rock hard ride, banging and crashing over every imperfection, but somehow loads of body roll.

Yep. That's what I recall, my mate who was a decent racer back in the day had a new 1.8T car and only kept it for a few months as it was the worst handling car he'd ever had.

Yep. That's what I recall, my mate who was a decent racer back in the day had a new 1.8T car and only kept it for a few months as it was the worst handling car he'd ever had.

Friends had a GT Tdi150 and a GTi some variety and them being pudding is what I remember. Dull and not very competent on the back roads of N.Yorks.

Some of my greatest drives were in a supercharged mk3 vr6 fitted with a h&r cup kit and a set of eibach springs completely changed the way my mk3 16v drove. Vividly remember out dragging a brand new Italian registered R8 out of the karrusel 4 up in the vr6.
