How does one get a license? If there different levels of licences? Etc

Please share you knowledge and perhaps jokes?

Different licenses but if you're over 24 you can go directly to the all-bikes license. Google DAS motorbike license.

You'll need to:

1. Complete your CBT (Compulsory Basic Training - one day job);
2. Take lessons - don't rush them, take your time;
3. Take a theory test;
4. There are two parts to the actual test - skills in a closed yard and then a road test.

Have a look here - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motorbike_practical_test

What do you want to get out of 'bike riding?

I don’t know what I want really. I can’t imagine I’ll be doing it for a number of years

It always looks a bit power rangers, but also, fast and fun.

It would be a weekend thing, I’m sure

I must have confused your question regarding how to get a motorbike license as a fairly current desire to have a motorbike license :lol:

You can actually do number three before number two, AFAIK.
Oui, je suis un motard.

I often see bikers and think that would be FG on a weekend like this but then start wondering if leathers, boots and a helmet might be a bit of a faff/uncomfortable.

Maybe I'd be better toddling to the shops in a diesel convertible.

When you’re moving, bike gear is fine. If you stop for a microsecond, you’ll sweat like a pregnant nun. That’s why we’re always going so fast.
