Re: Fiat 850 sedan thread
Hard to get a decent pic as the lighting had completely changed, but looks a lot better without the bird poop. Paint is pretty poor under it, not quite sure how to preserve it without making it a pain to do anything with later. Tempted to just lacquer over it all for now.
Extra overrider removed and replacement bolt pinched from the mangled front bumper. No dent underneath but the bumper itself is worse than I thought. Thought it just had some flaking chrome but there's actually a hole / split so may end up replacing it.
New badge fits alright one side

Just remove the bumpers like people do with old Alfas.
How about not having a sig at all?

Nah, they look a bit odd without them.
Could be tempted to take all the overriders off and modify the brackets so they sit a bit tighter to the body for a cleaner look.
But we're a long way off anything like that

A small straight bar might work?..
I don’t know how you can have so many projects Harry; think I’d go slightly insane trying to deal with them all at once!

I saw a white 850 Sport this afternoon - would never have paid any attention to it but after this thread I knew what it was straight away. Sounded quite rorty! Also seemed to have a huge heat sync finned diff kinda thing slung out back?
Re: Fiat 850 sedan thread
Wouldn't that be what they call the "engine", Dave?
Re: Fiat 850 sedan thread
I avoid anything to do with Fiat like the fucking plague, but I'm assuming a 600 is like a 500 but 100 better? I know the original 500 was rear engined, and the Abarth had the prop up rear deck...
TBH the one I saw today sounded really tasty, old school carb snort kinda thing going on. I approve of this thread Harry!

Re: Fiat 850 sedan thread
Rear engined, watercooled 4pot, I think the coupes, spiders and special saloons got 903cc versions and 47bhp or similar, while the saloon came as 850cc with either 34 bhp for the normal and 37bhp for the S versions.
There's all sorts of abarth bits and bob ( which are usually silly money ) including 8 port heads for twin carbs, lairy exhausts and fancy finned alloy sumps, which is probably what you saw hanging underneath from behind.
Had a look at the figures, it's ( saloon version vs mini 850 ) 500mm longer than a mini, but only 20mm wider, and has almost identical power and weight figures, with slight variations depending which site and specific version you look at.

Re: Fiat 850 sedan thread
500 was two cylinder air cooled, 600 was a bit bigger with a 4cylinder watercooled engine ( hence the big front radiators mounted in a fibreglass box on the race versions )KiwiDave wrote: ↑Sun Aug 18, 2019 10:28 amI avoid anything to do with Fiat like the fucking plague, but I'm assuming a 600 is like a 500 but 100 better? The 850 was mechanically very similar to the 600 but on a slightly longer and wider more spacious platform, they did the sedan, coupe, spider, racer ( spider with a hard top ) van and peoplecarrier versions as well as short run specials by various other coach builders.
To be honest, I had no idea what a fiat 850 was and pretty sure I've never seen one on the road until the idea of trying to save this one started to become a reality.

I like the researching, planning, parts hunting and collecting, then get fed up and try and find something else instead of actually finishing anything

Re: Fiat 850 sedan thread
Worrying looking parcel waiting for me today. Much amusement from the postman apparently
Oh yeah, it's that exhaust I ordered months ago, at the moment the car just has its cast manifold.
Behold a tubular manifold 850 special exhaust
That's it. The entire exhaust from cylinder head to tailpipe, it weighs about 4kg

Love the exhaust!
Keep meaning to dig out some photos from the Italian day at Brooklands for you - I'm sure there were one or two 850 sedans there, and much Abarth goodness.

Left over crest; tightens.
Re: Fiat 850 sedan thread
Here's a slightly different 850 that pops up in some random race series down here:
