Oldest item I've been given will be my stuffed toys from when I was a baby, call it 42 years old, give or take.

I have some family heirloom furniture that I share with my sisters, they're probably 30s or 40s.

Oldest item I've bought is a Casio watch I bought with some of be money from my bar mitzvah in 1990.

My house (1935) has plenty of furniture from the 60s and 70s, then I have some stuff like scale rules that were my grandads - probably 1950s,

Of course they don't. They've not got any fingers to count on.

I've just realised that I bought a captain's desk that I've got no idea how old it.

Probably the car actually. I still have the first computer I bought in the basement (one day I'll drag the disks out, enumerate the RAID controller and get teh data off it, could be an interesting time capsule) which must be knocking on 15 years old.

Otherwise I don't tend to hold on to things - too many rushed house moves, too little space.

I have a Kanken bag I bought in Denmark in 1986 that I still use all the time. I have scraps left from my baby blanket (shawlie as it was and is known) that was with me when my parents picked me up from the foster home. I now know it was knitted by my maternal Great Grandmother as a christening blanket for my biological maternal parental unit so must be 60ish years old. Blue Ted now is in my wee boy's bed and I had him from when i was tiny wee as well.

I also have various silver spoons and medals I got from my Grandma, some old coins, a few old books from the 1940s, some fossils and gems etc (which don't seem to be in the spirit of this thread).

I also have my Green Cross Code badge that was handed to me by David Prowse himself which must be from about 1984.

Great thread BTW.

I think if I had pulled my finger out and sorted that years ago (the drives are probably fucked by now anyway) it'd probably be my first Halfords professional socket set

I really don't hang onto things - my life has been waaaaaay too transient.

I thought this was the oldest thing you've bought rather than the age of the thing you own?

Anyway, if we're going with the latter then it would be a book - a copy of Milton's Paradise lost. Publishers date stamp of 1763 but a hand written inscription in 1768, so over 250 years old. Quite cool to hold something in your hand that was made when Pitt the Elder was Prime Minister and before the United Kingdom came into being - oh and the US was still a British colony!

IIRC correctly it was also a drunk eBay purchase - I don't know if that adds or detracts from the appeal

Somewhere in a box at my folks house I've got a Chinese burial figure - early Han dynasty which makes it c. 200BCE (worth 2/3 of fuck all, before you ask ;) )
Mrs. Nef has a bit of Greek pottery found at Ephesus which is potentially as old as 500BC, but difficult to verify as it may not have been acquired through wholly legitimate means...

The bank owns my leased modified F40 diesel, the house is paid for :p

My recently dusted off Amiga 1200 which powered up without an issue is probably the one that springs to mind after my mum gave me it recently!
