Monkey’s Podcast

Post by Richard »

I can’t find a thread for this

It’s called “The Collecting Cars with Chris Harris” and is a spin off of the Collecting Cars auction site business which he appears to have a hand in.

Does anyone else listen? It’s REALLY good.

Basically it’s Monkey and Edward Lovett (off of the Dick Lovett dynasty) chatting about cars with a guest. And they’ve had some cracking guests. So far - Max Girardo (from auctions), David Clark (who was the sales guy for McLaren F1), Richard Tuthill (from Tuthill Porsche), Richard Porter (writes for some TV programme), Andrew Frankel (you know him), Dickie Meaden (you know him), and Seen Through Glass Sam (from YouTubes)

If you’ve not listened, do. Episodes range from 1-2 hours. Great for a commute, or when doing the house work.

It's great and I've relistened to a few of them. The only downside is the laughing into the mics as you suddenly have to lunge for the volume controls.

I've listened to a few (Porter, Frankel, Meaden and SeenThroughGlass) and they've been great. Bloody long, so much so they have an interval.

Anyone listened to the HarryM one yet? Interesting short snippet about the forum; I don't think PH was set up by ex-Evo forum users, was it? Unless PetrolTed was hounded off Evo before it even became popular.

I agree with you Jobbo... as far as I'm aware, no former evofourmites were anything to do with PH.

Maybe Harry is thinking of IaFG? 😂

Have a look at the last paragraph of the history section on the wiki for Evo Magazine: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evo_(magazine) - think it's been lifted from this podcast.
"The online Evo Forum at the point of takeover was consuming over half of the IT infrastructure costs, but not producing any revenue. Unable to to form a positive business plan, the Evo Forum was shut down, with its editors and managers forming a new forum called PistonHeads, now a globally successful automotive forum."

Pistonheads was started by PetrolTed in December 1998, see here (about half way down): https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/top ... 6&t=120478 - not sure when he started the forum part, but it's pretty clear that he wasn't an exile from Evo's forum since the magazine only launched in Nov 1998

Dave (PetrolTed) ran a tvr forum before setting up Pistonheads. We used to print stuff for PH including the calendars. Nice fella.

Looking at the earliest people who registered for PH forums, it seems to have gone live around 18 August 2000. I don't know the dates when the original Evo forum appeared or when it switched to Snitz; obviously it didn't shut down when they sold to Dennis so that statement is blatantly inaccurate.

I joined EVO forum Snitz edition in November 2000 fwiw. There were no grown ups running the place at that point, or any thereafter 😅

Mate, if that forum was eating half your costs, you need to sack off your IT team....

Now, the entire failed community section.....well at that point, you fire your marketing head.

If the total budget was only £10 and a bag of revels that could be true.
