Did you use Quik Detailer spray as lube for the clay? That helps with beading.

Re: eBay 996 build thread
I went with dyeing the leather. Just waiting for the first coat to dry before going in with a heavier 2nd coat. Seat looks better, but the steering wheel looks like it will come out brilliantly.Sundayjumper wrote: ↑Wed Jul 24, 2019 9:41 amEither way, have a beer while you're thinking about itNotoriousREV wrote: ↑Wed Jul 24, 2019 9:29 am Tough decision to make today after several parcels arrived at the same time. Do I re-dye my seats/steering wheel/knob or do I replace the whining accessory drive idlers? Haven’t got time for both. I’m thinking the seats are less physical work in this heat.

Is it me or is that not the colour it left the factory? Or have I not read the thread properly?

Has this thread shifted from a 'build' to a rolling restoration?

Re: the steering wheel - had you cleaned it at all beforehand? I only ask as I used plain soap and a wet rag last week and it was astounding the difference even just using that made. Shinyness reduced massively, and marks all gone.

It's just clicked that you're talking about a 'magic eraser sponge', which I've seen referred to in a lot of interior cleaning vids, with nice results.NotoriousREV wrote: ↑Sat Jul 20, 2019 7:13 pm Autoglym Interior Shampoo and a melamine sponge. Didn’t even need to scrub, just a gentle wipe clears up the skid marks.
I'm tempted to get some for a few jobs around the car - steering wheel, and also various bits of interior trim that have that rubberised coating that eventually peels off; pop the trim out, clean it off, plastidip, refit.

I Plastidipped the interior trim on one of my E46s to good effect.Beany wrote: ↑Wed Jul 24, 2019 12:23 pmIt's just clicked that you're talking about a 'magic eraser sponge', which I've seen referred to in a lot of interior cleaning vids, with nice results.NotoriousREV wrote: ↑Sat Jul 20, 2019 7:13 pm Autoglym Interior Shampoo and a melamine sponge. Yeah, tried everything on it but it was really badly worn.Swervin_Mervin wrote: ↑Wed Jul 24, 2019 11:50 am Re: the steering wheel - had you cleaned it at all beforehand? It’s the factory Graphite Grey plus 20 years of fading, wear and previous application of various products.
