Porsche 718 Spyder/GT4
Re: Porsche 718 Spyder/GT4
414bhp, 6 speed manual, 8k redline...
Sounds like a decent daily driver to me.

Are the front strut towers still made from a chocolate alloy?
Oui, je suis un motard.
Re: Porsche 718 Spyder/GT4
It generally takes Porsche at least about 7 years to engineer out a known fault so I’d guess so.

With each generation, I'm liking the Cayman more and more, and as the 911 gets more lardy I like it less and less.
Re: Porsche 718 Spyder/GT4
I concur.
edit - beyond the number of doors, our cars really are similar, aren't they!

Re: Porsche 718 Spyder/GT4
It's a 6-mallet again. Hoorah!
Re: Porsche 718 Spyder/GT4
Yep. 6 mallets, 6 coggers, 8000 rippers.
How about not having a sig at all?

My mate has a 991.2 Manuel GT3 Clubsport with the carbon buckets, and genuinely its the best car i have ever driven, by a county mile, he recently fitted an exhaust as well, its ridiculous!Sundayjumper wrote: ↑Tue Jun 18, 2019 8:58 am With each generation, I'm liking the Cayman more and more, and as the 911 gets more lardy I like it less and less.
they make look lardy but to drive them they are sublime!
Re: Porsche 718 Spyder/GT4
i seem to remember the Audi came first - but I expect the spys had been chatting away for many years before!

It's comments like that which play tricks on me a bit on my mythical lotto garage... This new GT4 essentially looks utterly perfect, and yet somehow you can't help always wonder no matter how good it is, are you missing out if you don't buy an actual 911 instead?Foz wrote: ↑Tue Jun 18, 2019 11:19 amMy mate has a 991.2 Manuel GT3 Clubsport with the carbon buckets, and genuinely its the best car i have ever driven, by a county mile, he recently fitted an exhaust as well, its ridiculous!Sundayjumper wrote: ↑Tue Jun 18, 2019 8:58 am With each generation, I'm liking the Cayman more and more, and as the 911 gets more lardy I like it less and less.

Need those numbers to come in before I have to answer the question so not sure I need to worry endlessly about it.

Re: Porsche 718 Spyder/GT4
No! It's a smallish mid-engined rear drive sports car with a 414bhp naturally aspirated flat-6, which revs to 8000rpm amd it has a manual box. Bollocks to the 911 I have massive wants for this! Shame I'll likely never be able to afford one.KiwiDave wrote: ↑Wed Jun 19, 2019 10:24 amIt's comments like that which play tricks on me a bit on my mythical lotto garage... Although 0-60 in 4.4s from 414bhp seems a bit meh when the A110 achieves the same from c75% of the power output. I guess the manual box hampers timings a little.

Think I prefer the Spyder. And I’m surprised it’s cheaper than the GT4.
Monkey reckons the 6bang may end up replacing the turbot4 in the Coxster range.

Yes I saw this - he noted that the 4cyl sold like "herpes-infused toothpaste in the US" You could argue that as worldwide sales were flat they don't care. Can't be nice relying on the Chinese market to the detriment of the US, however, with China's overall car sales falling 14.6% in April.
Personally though, for all I hope they go back to 6cyl I don't think they will for purposes of emissions, etc. Harris said "why would they develop an all new engine for the GT4" but I think that overlooks the fact its very likely not to be an all new engine but a tweaked version of an existing one and that Porsche have a history of using a totally different engine in their GT models to their run of the mill versions (i.e. Mezger in the Turbo/GT3s and non-turbos in the current generation) so I don't really see it.
