Re: Your fleet running reports
The factory pressures for the 996 are waaaay too high. Handbook says 36/44 but I usually run mine more like 30/34.GG. wrote: Tue Jun 04, 2019 11:27 am Pressures are also very important - IIRC rears on a 997.2 are 40psi standard and supposedly 44psi for 2/3 passengers and luggage!
F/R weight distribution is not the only factor. The Evora will get close to the 911 on the bare splits but the 911 will have a higher polar moment of inertia as basically the entire block is behind the rear axle and outside of the wheelbase versus pretty much on top of it for the Evora - plus more of a "pogo" effect that you really feel over big undulations.
I finally got around to looking up the weight distributions and the 996 & Evora appear to be identical at 39/61 front/rear. GG's point about inertia is very valid though.
Re: Your fleet running reports
Yes.
I have driven several SC, 993 and 996 and they all had bobbly front ends and very firm rear ends. The Evora doesnt do that despite having v similar weight distrib.
In other news i replaced the rear hatch struts on the Evora as the boot wasnt opening fully, and could drop back down on your noggin.
Now it no longer quite opens fully on its own, but no longer threatens to drop down on you. Which I guess is progress.

Re: Your fleet running reports
Similar weight distribution fr / rr, but the 911 has mass way outside the wheelbase, Evora has it within the wheelbase.

I went car shopping with my Mum today and found a 2016 Skoda Citigo, 10000 miles for £5700.
It was surprisingly refined, had a full sized spare, air con, sat nav and was absolutely mint. I could only find 2 tiny scratches on the inner door handle from someone’s rings.
What’s the best way to check for a genuine history now ?

I have several lumps on the back of my head due to the same issue. Where'd you get them from, and how much?mik wrote: Tue Jun 04, 2019 12:09 pm In other news i replaced the rear hatch struts on the Evora as the boot wasnt opening fully, and could drop back down on your noggin.

Interesting to see that on the GT410/430 (or whatever has the carbon boot) they've got back to a prop bar. Apparently it's also now so light that the boot machanism doesn't work properly

Shows MOT's, any old adverts it can find, and various other bits. Very useful.

I think elise-shop worked out a smidge cheaper?
5 mins per side to change with a 10mm and a couple of 13mm spanners. I tied the hatch up to the garage door runner to make it easier.

They still test new tyres on old models and even get manufacturers to use period looking tread patterns with modern compound and carcasses.mik wrote: Tue Jun 04, 2019 10:29 am I've always felt the N-Rating argument was mince too. Particularly when new tyres are released which completely out perform the N-rated tyres for a car.

On the lookout for a car to replace the 308 properly now I have a small amount of time on my hands this month, quite fancy a V50 T5 or a C30 T5.
Should get at least 3k trade for 308 so should get a decent one for that plus a grand or so if needed.

Much obliged, the SBS ones look better quality so I'll go that route.mik wrote: Tue Jun 04, 2019 1:35 pm I went sgs.

I believe that was Colin Chapman’s first draft of “Simplify, and add lightness”

I fitted the SGS struts to Treina’s TT and also some to the ML and am happy with both.Matty wrote: Tue Jun 04, 2019 11:45 pmMuch obliged, the SBS ones look better quality so I'll go that route.mik wrote: Tue Jun 04, 2019 1:35 pm I went sgs.

Re: Your fleet running reports
That rear seat passenger has their knees inside the drivers spine. There's not even a seat there. That's really pursuing lightness!

Banal Vapid Platitudes
Re: Your fleet running reports
They let you spec those three vertebra back as a no cost option if you don't intend to carry passengers in the rear.
Re: Your fleet running reports
Crikey you lot. OMG the front wheel will hit the drivers foot! And he'll have the steering wheel impaled on this leg!
Or, it's a 2d cross section of a 3d vehicle; ie: the back of that seat is curved and the rear sit passengers legs rest towards the outer edge of the seat-back.

I think the original owner specced my car with a short lady in the back, but either he or the stealership must havd kept her.
I have had me + mrs mik + mrs mik's friend + mrs mik's friend's 14yr old daughter in the Evora simultaneously at the same time. But I would not claim that any of us were very comfortable.
We were dropping them back at their hotel - just 5 minutes away. Helpfully mrs mik insisted we did NOT use the Nav as she knew the route. We then drove to a completely different hotel, and spent about 20mins getting to the correct one. How we laughed.

That's the braking system. Add lightness, simplify like a micro-scooter.
