The idle dreaming "cars you want that don't exist" thread

Post by Pete_ »

The only cars I lust after at the moment are the Alfa 4c and Alpine A110. But neither suit my lifestyle, unfortunately. What car that doesn't exist would you want?

For me:
  • Two door sexy shooting brake
Four seated, with sufficient leg room for adults in the back
Rear seats can fold flat to allow all manner of large items to fit in the rear (😉)
Minimalist Tesla-style interior design, but with Jag levels of quality
Rear wheel drive for epic skidz
Light weight design, as far as possible
V6 engine, also with a plug in hybrid battery motor
    Circa 300 bhp
Manufactured by Honda, Lexus, Volvo or maybe even Lotus
£40k new, I'll buy it at 5 years old for £16k
Think baby GTC4, CRZ turned up to 11, or modern Lotus Elite

Rear engined, so if you do that it'll warm the cockles.

I think you need a modern take on the old Scimitar GTE.

A modern SZ.

V10 engine, full Carbon Fibre Chassis, manual gearbox. Basically the best Front engined, RWD car that humans can make.

If you're wondering why I said a V10, well Alfa did make a V10, in fact they were on about doing an SZ replacement. But then the world economy hit the fan...

But not a Ferrari Superdooperfast?

Of course I want a Mk4 MR2.
Or a Hartley V8 Exige.
Or manual 5series with a decent six pot petrol.

A Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II (or Bentley S2) body and interior, with the underpinnings (engine, transmission and chassis) of a Bentley Turbo R.

I seem to remember that somebody did do this once, but it wasn't cheap or easy.

You don't really need 800 HP and you definitely don't want the weight or size in the UK. I mean the Ferrari is over 2 feet longer and nearly 500 KG heavier, an SZ isn't much bigger than a 90's hot hatch! Toyota's LFA is about as close as anyone has got, but even they failed to go balls deep. Yeah, mid-engine stuff is all well and good for ultimate speed, but really if you just want to drive like a wanker (which I do) Front Engine, RWD is the way to go. :D

its an interesting car no doubt, but comparisons to Ferraris and LFAs... it’s basically a rebodied 75 yeah?

Yes - I know, but this thread is meant be about your DREAM cars! I'm just saying that I don't think the best Front Engine RWD car actually exists.

thats like saying that you don’t think the best tasting burger exists. Of course it does, but it’s a matter of taste.

A ClioV6 inspired 147GTA. That is, slap the Busso where the rear seats are and have it drive the rear wheels. Or, if feeling more extravagant, put the 4.7 V8 out of the 8C/Maser in there instead.

why bother starting with a hatchback though? Just put that engine in the Alfa 4C.

Because why not Rich. It is the cars you want that don't exist thread, not the cars you want that don't exist and also have to pass the RichB logic test thread :).

Good shout...

A mate's often thought about the R32 / R36 into a Bay Window Camper conversion...

I think I would rather have a watercooled 911 engine if I wanted to make a faster, more reliable camper.
