ETA - the cranks scare me. Cast ones are shit. Forged ones are good in theory, but there is only one supplier, and the word is that the latest batch are rubbish (my friend had a "new" engine build this time last year, only for the crank to fail two races later, taking everything else out with it 😱

I didn’t realise you were running Kent engines!

Did that to a race engine of mine many moons ago. Over revved it in my first race meet and learnt the hard way. Rattle, rattle, rattle, bang! At least one of our race engines is only £500 though.

Over the years, they've variously tried to change to Zetec, Duratec and Ecoboost, but never managed to make a success of it.

Either of the first two would be great (20-30bhp more power, engine rebuilds at 20% of the current cost), but:
1) if you keep the injection and ECU then guaranteed half the field will be cheating somehow (secret maps, hidden piggyback ecus etc). Duratecs don't like running carbs.
2) they could never come up with a workable equivalency formula to allow these cars to run alongside the Kents to enable a transition
3) there was always lots of resistance from big teams who've invested heavily in Kent knowledge and physical stock

Interesting crankcase breathing mod. I hope it's not too painful to get back into action.

Why is the reverse circuit so much harder on the cars?

Start finish straight speeds are higher as the exit speed from the top of duffus is greater than the exit speed from the hairpin clockwise then following that the straight is downhill into the braking zone rather that uphill then a drop at duffas..

Clark entrance involves braking hard on the entry kerbs and turning at the same time.

The chicane is an elevation drop followed by a compression over the kerbs in reverse.

Butchers is another high speed compression - i ground the lotus there if i hit it full speed from the chicane.

Heres some chase footage of me in the lotus from an integra type R as an illustration

Pull the engine out today, and did a little bit of fishing in the sump.

How about this for slight con-rod damage:

Nothing left of the piston that goes with it - literally HAMMERED TO DUST ;)
