Even foreign cinema has become crap. Everything has really homogenised in the past 5 years.

I don't really understand how you can call something like Mandy or You Were Never Really There bland. Mandy is one of the most insane movies I've ever seen.

Joaquin Phoenix, Nic Cage are big names - not sure they count as indy films

(independant by definition yes, but you know what I mean)

You’re hard work man .

Just because an independent movie has a bigger actor in it doesn’t make it not an independent film.

I’m going to stop detailing the TV thread now though.

Not recent, but I'm rewatching Deadwood at the moment (my wife hasn't seen it before).

Just as good as I remembered it.

Line of duty

I must say of late I cba with much tv that needs many weeks of attention with the exception of maybe Billions.

This however is great, maybe it's because Stephen Graham is such a good actor.

Binged both series last week and I thought it was a lovely little show, final ep of second series genuinely had me tear up. Actual emotions.

Can't wait for S2 Killing Eve.

Aye watched all of Fleabag after watching the first season of Killing Eve, loved both of them.

Season 2 of Killing Eve has started in the US if you don’t mind getting it from illicit sources. Won’t be on BBC until June apparently.

Has anyone here heard of Game of Thrones?

Season 8 has just started and again, it’s really quite good.

If you’ve not watched it, it’s all on Sky Box sets (or NowTV) and although there’s 7 season, they’re not massively long

It was a bit of a “set the scene” episode wasn’t it - still enjoyed it though, especially the Jon/Sam exchange that we’ve basically waited 7 seasons for!

Good to hear Ed Sheeran got his face burnt off too...

I liked the first episode, I was expecting them to do something big but the smaller catch up style worked considering the long break between seasons.

Watched the second episode of new Killing Eve last night as well, I think it might be my favourite current series. Might even be better than Russian Doll.

Need to go back and watch S1 of Fleabag. And yes, looking forward to Killing Eve series 2. I gather Phoebe Waller-Bridge hasn't had anything to do with it though? And isn't it about time the BBC cut the crap with this geo-blocking bollocks? It's being shown around the globe at the moment ffs.

Also, to echo Rev above, I really enjoyed Home. Missed eps 2 and 3 for some reason but it really was a lovely comedy that managed to confront head-on some of the current issues facing us. I particularly enjoyed the meal with the Germans - especially the "we're shit and we know we are" Great writing by Rufus Jones, and superb casting. Rebekah Staton is brilliant - loved her in Raised by Wolves (it's criminal that series didn't get recommissioned).

Last one from me, on a completely different note, is the BBC series Surgeons: At the Edge of Life. I've watched previous series of this and it never fails to amaze me. What these guys do, and what the supposedly struggling NHS is capable of, is frankly staggering. Last night's was focussed on an op to one woman's face to remove diseased bone and muscle and replace with a matched piece from her hip (12 hour op), as well as a neurosurgeon operating to remove a tumour from around a woman's brain stem (firstly via her hose and latterly via a hole behind her ear with the tumour behind all the crucial nerves).

Aye, it's only being broadcast in the US just now. Due to a co-production deal with AMC apparently. It's not officially going to be out here until June.

Oh good. That was one of the best series of last year IMO.

The Grand Tour

I know it has its own thread, but I thought I’d say here how much I’ve enjoyed this season of TGT. I think, in this third season, they’d really got into the swing of things.

I was surprised to see just how emotional Clarkson was when he was announcing the end of the studio show, especially as, although this will probably be the biggest ever change in the history of TG/TGT, to me it feels very much like it’s continuing as the shame show, just different.

I think they’ve been smart. The studio section, news, the track stuff etc isn’t working so well anymore, mostly because they don’t film it the same week it goes out. So the news is old, their chat can’t be up to date, and whatever car they’re reviewing has usually already been throughly reviewed elsewhere, often up to a year ago

Great montage at the end too

Fleabag is the best thing I've seen all year. That season finale. Bloody hell.
