This thread reminded me I've got a pair of Oakleys that I never wear as they're boring, so ordered a pair of lenses last night.

I'm 3/4 of the way through having all of my Oakleys re-lensed to my prescription, my oldest A-Wires are still going (had two rubber parts refresh kits) but one of the lenses is cracked now but they are 2001 vintage. I favour the original 5's for sports (have to pick up used ones now as they are long out of production) as they hang on well at speed and shield my eyes from wind.
I have to wear sunglasses a lot as my eyes are sensitive to bright light and i'm always squinting if I don't wear them, the A-wires have been though a lot over the years and aren't badly scratched with only a few light marks but I guess the lenses get brittle over time so they crack when dropped, which happened last year.
The wife has a set of Ray-bans, but even though they are the are the same company now they don't seem as well made as Oakley.

I have Ray Bans, some Serengeti in the bus and some Bloc ones for just walking about etc.

I also have some old Full Metal Jackets in the back of a drawer with broken legs, I think I got as far as finding the returns address to get the re-framed then promptly forgot them!

Too much of a cheapskate these days - I buy fake wayfarers in bulk. At £2.50 a pop, there's only so many fucks I can give when they get lost, run over, or sliced with an angle grinder.

This is actually very dangerous. You want to be *certain* that they’re UVA/B blocking, otherwise all the sunglasses are doing is making your pupils open up nice and wide when it’s bright, allowing the UV to fuck you hard

UV protection isn’t an expensive thing to achieve though, so most cheap glasses perform just as well as expensive ones.

i’d agree for buying them at a market or festival - but eBay sellers are fine.

It's a pretty stupid risk to take though, especially when you can pick up a pair with actual UV protection from £10 at TKMaxx.

Nah, someone dropshipping glasses made in some random Chinese factory is far less likely to know how they’re made than the branded glasses they sell in Tk Maxx.

Either stock off the 'Bay but I like a bit of homebrew so I feel "special"- check out Fuse lenses - https://www.fuselenses.com/ - they have nicer choices than stock Ray-ban lenses and are not dear at all (I'm guessing you still like your existing frames).

I wear Ray-bans mostly but also have a few pairs of Oakley Frogskins. I bought some fake Jokely Frogskins off eBay and the frames were practically identical, the lenses scratched in no time at all though compared to the genuine ones. I had some Oakley Jawbones for cycling and broke them in a crash. I bought a fake pair and the genuine lenses fit straight into them and the actual frames are again pretty indistinguishable. I wouldn't be surprised if they came out of the same flipping factory.

Recently bought some 100% S2s, they're really nice and performance of fit, staying put on your face and clarity etc is fantastic.

Got my new Fuse lenses, fitted like a glove.

Having to pay £11 customs duty was a bit annoying (especially since Royal Mail's 'handling fee' was £8 of it). Still, cheaper than new shades and the lenses are good. Good tip JL.

Thanks to this thread I bought some new lenses for some well liked old rayban frames. Fuckers ended up coming all the way from AUS but thankfully I didn't get stung by customs.

Some TAUC stole my eldest’s bag last week. Amongst other items, he lost his Police sunnies.

He’s just therefore inherited my old Oakley TinCans - 10yrs old now but there isn’t a mark on them. Fit and suit him perfectly.

Have ordered a pair of Serengeti’s for me, so it’s not necessarily the most generous gifting evah.

I bought a pair of Ray-Ban Aviators last month as we found that my wife's Boots Opticians contact lens plan let her have half price on any pair of sunglasses, prescription lens or not, as long as they were for her.

Obviously when she wears her contact lenses, any sunglasses would need to not have a prescription lens.....

75 quid for proper Aviators isn't bad!

I've recently bought a cheap pair as my Oakley's are scratched to buggery so this has come in a good time.

Now I have to try to remember what they're called / the model as their a good few years old and the packaging is long gone

I'm still rocking a pair of Maui Jim's I got around 6 years ago or more, and in the wife's car I have my Police sunnies that must be well over 20 years old. I still love those - they're not only the most comfortable but the bronze tint makes even Manchester look like a warm paradise
